When to leave for the honeymoon

Louise, 11 September, 2021 at 08:30 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 9
My fiencé and I are looking at going to America for our honeymoon. I always had this romantic idea that couples stay the night at their venue and then jet off the following day. Fiencé assumed we whould come home for a night or two before flying and doesn't think going straight is a good idea!

Not sure how to decide what to do as you can't really compromise - it's the next day or it isn't! Is my romantic idea just that - an impractical dream?

Traditionally you would go the next day but for me I want a day or so to take some time to chill and be fresh for Honeymoon, also so we sort out post wedding stuff. We are staying at the Venue an additional night and using the spa there then go home for a night before honeymoon the next day. Honestly is your choice, good luck x

I think with covid and swabbing etc I think honeymoons straight after any big event are sadly not such a great idea.

I think give yourself a couple of days to decompress from the wedding. Also you don’t want the stress of having to pack for your honeymoon before the wedding x

I wanted to the same as you but for us it’s just not practical! We have to go back to venue following day to clear everything as it’s DIY venue plus we have 2 young children so want to spend some time with them before going so are leaving the following weekend. A lot of people have said they feel a bit flat after the wedding so I’m now thinking it will be nice to have something else to look forward to.

It probably depends what will need doing after the wedding. We are having a DIY wedding on a Saturday so are thinking of having a couple of tidy up days on Sunday and Monday then go away on the Tuesday.

I suppose it depends on flights, not all places have flights everyday. We get married in October but not be going on honeymoon until March. We decided to delay to celebrate hubs 40th aswell.

We are also going to America for our honeymoon. We are getting married on a Saturday and flying on the Monday. I also wanted to go straight away, but given that a lot of our friends and family will be staying in the hotel and we’ll be sitting on a long-haul flight for 13 hours, we decided it was best to have the Sunday to have breakfast with everyone and go home and get a good nights sleep before we fly.

I have booked my honeymoon for a month later just because its much cheaper and hotter where we wanted to go. Also, it then gives us something to look forward to a month later after we get married

We are deliberately leaving a gap between the wedding and honeymoon - I think we’ll feel a bit flat after the excitement of the wedding and having something to look forward to will really help. Also gives us more flexibility re where to go as we aren’t tied to a particular time of year. We are having a local mini-moon but due to childcare and such, have two nights at home between the wedding and going away.
