When to send out wedding invites?

Weddingjuly2023, 4 January, 2023 at 18:30 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 1 6
Hi all,

When do you think is the best time to send wedding invites if I'm getting married at the end of June? I want to make sure people have enough time to book hotels as their prices are not set (we have asked if we could reserve rooms).

I’m getting married at the beginning of July and planning to send out our Day Invitations at the end of January with a RSVP date for mid-March. I feel that will then leave me some time to add people to the day if anyone on the initial list cannot make it xx

I have sent my invites out and we get married August 2023.

With a deadline June as per wedding venue for final RSVP and 8 weeks before for menu choices. Very little people have RSVP as yet which I'm shocked at and I can see us having to chase people for a response x

I’ll be the first to admit, I probably sent our wedding invites out very early! Our wedding is October 2023, but we sent the invites in Oct/ Nov 2022. We just couldn't see the point of sending out save the dates as we already had the info in terms of menu choices, places to stay and ceremony time. We have asked for people to RSVP by end of Jan 2023 even though our venue doesn’t need to know the final numbers until Sept 2023. But that was so people RSVP’d early and we have time to chase (our spring/ summer at work get quite busy).

I think the recommendation is 3-6 months before the wedding for sending out invites, so if you’re ready to send them out now, may as well. I’d suggest doing the RSVP for at least a month ahead of when you need to tell the venue final numbers (if applicable) that way you have time to chase. X

We’re getting married mid-July, and are currently in the process of making the invites/wedding website. I’m away for a week at the end of the month with work, so providing the invites are ready, they’ll be sent out to the initial guest list when I’m back with RSVP for the end of March. That way if I have any stragglers or later declines I can invite/chase up a secondary list in April, ahead of the 8 week deadline to get all our numbers and dietary preferences locked in for.
We sent out electronic Save the Dates last August though, so some of our guests have already booked accommodation.

We're getting married middle of July and have just sent our invites! Our venue advised us on the timeline actually, because of when they need everyone's menu choices and our final head count - so worth asking on that if you haven't already.

Our RSPV date is end of March, as others have said this is to give us a bit of a buffer to invite others if we have any declines.

I think esp if your guests need to book accommodation, now is a really good time. Places book up fast for the summer, and people's annual leave allowances will have just opened.

We’re getting married at the start of April and sent out save the dates in July last year and posted our formal invitations a couple of days ago. We wanted to send them in November but had issues with the person who’d offered to make them for us.

For anyone who I knew would have to travel a long way (ie anyone abroad) I messaged them as soon as we booked our date so they could look for best deals with flights etc.

Personally I feel like I’m cutting it fine by only just having posted them, but it is still 3 months before, so people have a month to respond before I chase them.
