Perhaps try looking for "onion jam" instead?

I know Waitrose have it in the section with pickles and similar (red onion jam) as my mum buys it.

I think our Co-Op does this. It's in the sauses/herbs/pickles section.

Morrisons do them, but they are part of their 'best/finest' whatever it's called range, so may be somewhere obscure in the shop

I don't know, but I do know we have 2 jars of the stuff in our pantry. My husband's 91 yr old Granny bought us them after Husband said he like it. She died 4 years ago.

I've got some from the Tesco Finest range. I can't remember where they were now, but maybe by the tom ketchup/sauces/relishes/mustards bit.

That's strange, because I've seen them in tesco. ? I usually get them from our local deli, or M&S though.

I had the misfortune to go to a sainsburys recently. i had to ask FOUR people where the golden syrup was, and the first three just looked at me blankly. one said (scoffing) "you mean MAPLE syrup?" no dickwad, i mean golden syrup. amazing really.

Nick I had a similar experience in Sainsburys regarding pasta/durum wheat flour, 3 people I asked didnt even know that pasta was made with flour! I gave up went to tesco and found it straight away.

Caramelised onion stuff is always with the chutneys/pickles.

I went into Morrisons and asked if they had any jars of Peppadew peppers and they said "Oh no, we don't do fancy food like that as we're a Northern company" ??

I have bought Caramelised red onion chutney from Tesco. It is in their finest range, square jar with a black lid and label.

It was a Tesco Metro too

Funnily enough it was also Sainsburys I was in when I asked an assistant for a jar of roasted peppers. She insisted that they didn't exist! I managed to find a jar (at a very reasonable price of £1.29 ?) in Lidl right next door. Unfortunately the selection of shops is very poor in my local area ☹️

To Clarify I just want Caramelised Onions in a Jar (A La Nigella)

Not chutney / marmalade / pickle

M H still takes the p!ss out of me for an encounter I had with a Butcher in Asda.

We were passing and needed to get something for dinner. We popped in and I fancied some Calves Liver. I went up to the Butcher and said (according to H in a Hyacinth Bucket voice) "excuse me, do you have any calves liver", to which he replied with a smirk on his face "Do you know where you are love" ?

Supermarkets, they can't get the staff!

Anyway, back the question I get it from M and S.

It would def be easier to make your own ? It takes an hour or so, but by the time you've trailed around Morrison's, Sainsbury's and M&S...

They're so lovely in Waitrose - if you ask where something is, they actually take you to it, rather than waving vaguely and saying: "Over there", aand if they don't know what it is they find someone who does ?

There was a woman behind me in the queue in W'rose yesterday who didn't know what chicken livers were. Bizarre. She looked at my basket and went: "What bit of the chicken is that, then?" ?
