Where to buy rings?

HappyGoldCars770, 19 March, 2017 at 08:20 Posted on Planning 0 6

My partner and I are getting married in the summer, and we're trying to get our wedding rings. We spent several hours looking at jewellers last week, but had absolutely no luck in finding anything we wanted, so I'm looking for recommendations for good jewellers or websites to look at. I've seen a couple online that I think I like, but it's hard to tell without trying them on. One of our issues is that unexpectedly, we both need quite a large size despite neither of us being at all overweight (apparently we both have fat fingers...who knew?!) so quite a few rings that we liked the look of weren't available in our sizes. I had a particular problem with this - I'm an S or T depending on the style of the ring, and at least half of the shops we went in said their ladies' rings only go up to R.

We're aiming to stick to a budget of £400 or less altogether, because neither of us have expensive tastes, plus my partner will rarely actually wear his ring as he's not really a jewellery person and can't wear rings at work, and I'm really not comfortable walking around with something really expensive on my hand. In general, we have things we'd much rather spend our money on than rings, but we do want ones that we like!

Neither of us like completely plain rings, but we don't like mega-blingy ones either - we're looking for something a bit different but subtle. I'm not averse to a few diamonds or diamond cut (particularly as I don't have an engagement ring) but I don't want one that's mainly diamond. We don't like yellow gold so we're after something in white gold or one of the other white metals - my partner has seen quite a few he likes that are made from titanium or cobalt. It doesn't even have to be specifically a wedding ring - as far as we're concerned, any ring is a wedding ring if you exchange it on the occasion of your wedding! My partner is leaning towards something like this http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/2277131/titanium+men's+double+groove+ring/ and I'm quite taken with ones that are an interesting shape rather than a traditional band - something like these ones https://www.fhinds.co.uk/jewellery/.../rings/9ct-White-Gold-Diamond-Wave-Ring-R2114 or http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/9596542/9ct+white+gold+&+diamond+ring/

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for where else we could look for rings, bearing in mind the sort of thing we're looking for? Please note our budget!

I took a chance and ordered my ring online from a company I'd never heard of- and am delighted with it!

Its actually my second ring- bought the first one in a whirl of newly engaged enthusiasm and then realised after spending nearly £300 on it that though I like it as a ring, I don't like it as a wedding ring- ooops!

Clearly I then didn't have a massive budget and though I found a ring I liked in s high street store, it was nearly £250 and I couldn't justify it!

Got what to me appears exactly the same ring in terms of shape, style and weight fit just over £100 online.... as I said, it was a risk but it paid off! Oh, and I have a size Q, so nearly as big as you!

Im pretty sure the site was called the wedding jeweller- I'll double check that later and confirm- they offered a 30 day money back guarantee and I paid by credit card just for added peace of mind- if it hadn't arrived or I had needed a refund but had a problem, I'd have claimed it back via the card!

When I'm on the laptop later I'll double check the site and confirm! They had a big range of rings and their prices were very good!

We went in to H Samuel, we went into a few and my husband didn't want to go in there as he always thought it was a budget jewellers and really didn't want to get them in there, we ended up in there, and the staff/person who helped us anyway, was fantastic! So helpful and patient, I have the opposite problem to you, I have very thin fingers so trying to find rings small enough was a problem, and they were very helpful as to what rings they had in different sizes. Just checked their website and they don't filter by size, which is annoying - but seems to be plain ones go up to Z, the more detailed/patterned ones do seem to stop at S, which you said might fit depending on style.

However, I think my husband found my ER from amazon as they have an option to search by ring size. And they do do ladies rings in S, S1/2, T and T1/2. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Theia-White-Gold-Heavy-Weight/dp/B00PYFTD1S/ref=sr_1_17?s=jewelry&ie=UTF8&qid=1490009298&sr=1-17&psc=1 So that may be another option?

We are also non ring wearers but needed them for the service. (Finnish ceremony mix all abut the rings!) Knowing his was the only time oh would wear his we went to warren James and got him a nice titanium ring from there for next to nothing. I intended to use my diamond eternity ring but was a bit dubious knowing my engagement and eternity ring would spend a week sitting in the hotel room. While in warren James i spotted a gorgeous filligrae silver ring set with (not) diamonds. Loved it and snwpped it up. Total cost for both £50.00

Bought a lovely personalised ring box off eBay and there they have sat ever since lol.

As promised, this is where I got mine:

My OH found a titanium ring he loved in Ernest Jones. He knew he didn't want traditional gold, and didn't want to spend too much as he is worried it will get damaged whilst he's working- I think it cost us £70 so not the end of the world from a financial point of view if it needs replacing.

    Hi,

We hunted high and low for my wedding ring as I have an awkwardly shaped ER so it was a bit of a nightmare! We tried EVERY high street jewelers without any luck when a friend suggested trying an independent jeweler to have my ring made. We only had a very small budget for rings so thought we'd have no chance of getting one made but went along for a chat anyway!

I had warned h2b that if the price quoted was way over what we were expecting not to do the typical Yorkshire thing of shouting "how much??" but just politely saying "We'll think about it" and then never go back! The lovely lady wrote the price on a piece of paper and handed it to us! My reply was "How much!!!" It was WAY less than we'd expected! So much so that we ended up getting his ring made too (size Z)! As a bonus we got free engraving inside our rings and my ER cleaned for the wedding! We also get free cleaning on our first anniversary!

Don't discount an independent jeweler and having rings made. Worth having a chat and hopefully you'll get a nice surprise like we did plus you will be able to get exactly what you want! Mine fit together perfectly and I love wearing it!

    Anna x

I've just bought my ring from Orla James, they are an online company with so many choices of rings to suit all budgets, they will send out samples for you to try on and the service I received from them were excellent and I would highly recommend them, they did a bespoke ring for me as I wanted a few diamonds in the ring and they made me a mock up sample and sent that to me to try on, I couldn't ask for better service. from them
