Where to get married abroad?

emmac84, 26 of October of 2009 at 11:44 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 12

I am planning on getting married abroad in 2010 but cannot decide where.... ive been looking for months now and cannot make my mind up. I've been thinking maybe the carribbean or somewhere like that but just cannot decide. We've just come back from mauritius and that was an amazing place but i just think it may be a little too far for both parents as they are not great flyers. Can anyone suggest anywhere they have been that would be perfect to get married or somewhere they have actually got married?

Any sugegstions would be appreiciated as im totalyl stuck at the moment.

Hi Emma, if your parents aren't great flyers you could think about getting married in Italy - very romantic destination for it including Florence, Rome, Venice, and the Lakes - your parents could then catch a train there if they preferred!

Alternatively, depending on time of year you could look at the Greek Islands - they are really popular for weddings and you can have the ceremony in a traditional chapel or even on the beach. And of course Greece is a lot closer to fly to than the Caribbean or Indian Ocean.

Just some thoughts, hope they help. If you want any more advice - no obligation (!) - just contact me at www.topdrawerholidays.co.uk

    Naughty, naughty advertising Bish!!

Emma - Congratulations and welcome to Hitched!

If your parents arent great flyers then aye stick to Europe! Just be careful about residency lengths - ie: you have to be in france for 40days before you can get married there! Just Google 'wedding abroad'...there's lots of websites that give you all the legal information and place suggestions!

I'm getting married in Paphos, Cyprus but I know quite a few people on here highly recommend Lindos, Rhodes.

Hi HTH - sorry if you think its not the done thing to help out on here - I really thought it would be helpful if a travel specialist gave some advice - and when I say no obligation I really do mean it!! I always mention that I'm from Top Drawer Holidays so its very above board and not under the cover (like I think an awful lot of companies do on these forums!).

But do you think other people will object too - obviously that's the last thing I would want!!

What do other brides to be think? Any advice would be welcome!!

If you decide to go to the Caribbean, I can recommend Barbados as an amazing place to go! The people are very warm and friendly and you get great service everywhere! The marriage laws aren't too stringent and there seem to be plenty of co-ordinators around.

The beach outside my FIL's place has been the location for a few weddings over the past year and I've been told that they were beautiful!

I may be slightly biased towards Barbados as I'm currently enjoying my honeymoon there and am bimblig online while being a little tipsy on Rum Punch as my new husband kips on the sofa after a long day of relaxing in luxury!!.

We're getting married in Gibraltar, and although it's really easy to organise the marriage itself it's not the easiest place to get to for guests. Has anyone else any experience of Gibraltar weddings?

We wanted to get wed in Portugal but after months and months of e.mails / travel agent visits and phone calls, we told it was a logistical nightmare.

Think we're going for Majorca now, it's miles easier.

    Good luck.

    Hi all,

We're thinking of getting married In Italy and have found a venue just outside Rome with everything inside the complex. We're off to view it in January. Has anyone ever heard of it - Borgo di Tragliata? www.tragliata.it There's an English on site wedding coordinator there and apparantley it's VERY popular for Irish groups - anybody got any thoughts on it?
