Which one? Alcudia or Palma Nova?

Minx Sauce, 8 July, 2008 at 09:17 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

After searching all day yesterday, have now got it down to two hotels. Thanks for all the recs yesterday, very helpful.

It's between Alcudia Pins (Alcudia, Majorca) or Aquasol Aparthotel (Palma Nova, Majorca). Both are Self Catering.

Found a gorgeous one in Turkey (Turunc Hotel) but was just outside our budget, so H said if we do a cheaper one this time, then we can save up a little more and go to Turkey in October.

So... I've googled both hotels and both have good reviews on Tripadvsor. I was hoping for anyone who'd actually either been to these areas, or even better the actual hotels, who could give any pointers? To help me choose which one please.

Thank in advance,

Minx x

When are you thinking of going?

Palma Nova is pretty close to Magaluf so you might get the rowdiness of Magaluf?

    Alcudia has a lovely beach.

Personally i'd go to turkey. What's your budget?

Have you tried this website for turkey? They're good, we've been with them before and they're normally much cheaper than other websites/travel companies

Bleugh to both. Nasty tourist tacky resorts. Alcudia is better than Palma Nova though.

    Really? ?

That's what we were trying to avoid really too. Oh well, may well look elsewhere then. Thanks.

I'd suggest doing a DIY job instead. Find a hotel, book some sleazyjet flights and pay for a cab at the airport. Plenty of gorgeous places to stay in Majorca or fly into Alicante and have a look at the small places dotted on the coast up to Valencia.

But how do I find the good from the bad? Our budget is limited (3600 max for both) so I'm guessing that's why our searches are coming back with grotty places.

edited to say... that was meant to say £600, not 3600! ?

Erk...trying to remember specific names. Basically the coast where there isn't as much (think it's the West). Been a while since I've been out there I'm afraid.

We stayed in Palma Nova, but on the edge of whats called Torre Nova (part of it) which is quite far (30-40 min walk) from the centre of Magaluf, so wasn't too rowdy. But most places that you are going to see from a travel agent are touristy.

If you want to book it all yourself, you could try this site:

    https://www.vrbo.com/en-gb/?vgdc=HAUK&preferlocale=true&bc=ODHR

We have booked to go to a villa in Spain through this site, and booked flights seperately with Thompsonfly and car hire again seperately. It's worked out very reasonable!

H knows several people at work who have booked though this site and had good holidays.
