Which Side Does the Groom Stand?

GemmaLouise1986, 5 April, 2011 at 20:48 Posted on Planning 0 2

I'm just putting together our seating plan and I was thinking that traditionally the groom is usually to the right of the bride at all times - is this right?

I'm just querying it as I note on the photos of my brother's wedding he is to the left of my SIL....so now not sure.

Well at the ceremony the groom stands to the right of the bride, this tradition dates back to the times when the man kept his right arm free to fight with his sword and his left arm free to hold his lady Smiley smile I think at the top table it doesnt matter what side he sits, I have been to weddings where they have sat either side of the bride.

I think tradition is on the right but I'm contemplating swapping sides so that, as someone here mentioned, it would mean my family get to see my face instead of my back and likewise with my OH, keeping guests on the traditional sides.
