White napkins on an Ivory tablecloth- is it okay?

IanStuartBride, 24 July, 2015 at 08:28 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi Again,

This may sound like a boring topic but I just want some quick advice on whether it's okay to have white napkins on an ivory tablecloth at my wedding?

I'm planning on hiring linen because the tablecloths at my venue are really short looking on the tables and the chairs clash with the room I want to have dinner. I wanted Ivory linen because the room is quite oldy-worldy and my dress is quite a dark ivory too.

I don't want to fork out for ivory napkin hire though too as the venue has perfectly good white ones but I'm not sure if they'll look okay together or not.

Let me know what you think!

H xx

I don't think it would be a major issue, and I don't think your guests will mind, but there's a chance the white napkins may make the ivory tablecloths look darker in comparison. I imagine most will realise this is because the tablecloths are ivory though.

White napkins on an ivory tablecloth can look elegant and classic! The subtle contrast adds brightness, and it’s a great way to save costs. Adding centerpieces or décor that ties in with your theme can make it even more cohesive.

Locksmith near me is here for your emergency needs! White napkins on an ivory tablecloth can create a timeless and elegant setting. The soft contrast between the white napkins and the ivory fabric adds a sophisticated touch to any event. It’s a classic combination that works well for formal dinners, weddings, or special occasions. Just be mindful of stains, as they may show more clearly on lighter fabrics.

I totally get your concerns—it's all about finding that perfect balance, and the details matter so much for a wedding!

White napkins on an ivory tablecloth can definitely work! Here’s why :

    1. Contrast and Definition: White napkins against an ivory tablecloth will stand out just enough to give some definition and contrast, so the table setting doesn’t look too "monotone." The subtle contrast can add a touch of elegance and prevent the linens from blending too much together. It’s a clean, crisp look that can complement your overall style.

    2. Tying Into the Old-World Theme: Since your venue has that old-world charm and your dress is dark ivory, the combination of ivory and white is actually pretty timeless. It has a classic and refined feel without being overly fussy. You’re creating an elegant but relaxed vibe, which sounds perfect for the setting.

    3. Budget-Friendly Solution: If the venue's white napkins are already good quality and in excellent condition, I’d say go for it! Wedding costs can quickly add up, and this sounds like a great way to save a little without compromising too much on style.

That said, if you’re really worried about the contrast, you could always add a simple detail like an ivory or soft-colored ribbon around the napkins to tie them in more with the tablecloth. Or if you're having floral arrangements, you could incorporate some soft ivory flowers on the tables for a cohesive look.

But honestly, I think it’s going to be lovely! White and ivory are soft enough that they won’t clash, and the difference will add just the right amount of distinction. Plus, it’ll keep things simple and elegant, which is always a win.

I totally get where you're coming from! White napkins on an ivory tablecloth at your wedding can actually work really well, especially since both colors are quite neutral and elegant. The key is that the slight contrast between the ivory tablecloth and the white napkin can add a subtle depth without being jarring. Given that your venue is old-worldy and your dress is a dark ivory, this combination should complement the classic, timeless vibe you’re going for.

If you’re concerned about the contrast, you could always tie the napkins with a ribbon or band in a color that fits your wedding theme to bring the look together. But overall, I think the white napkins will blend in just fine with your ivory linen and won’t look out of place. Plus, it’s a great way to save on linen costs without sacrificing style!

Let me know if you need help with any other details !

It sounds like you're putting a lot of thought into the details of your wedding, and that's wonderful! To answer your question: Yes, white napkins on an ivory tablecloth can work well together, especially with the look you're going for.

    Here's why:

    • Contrast: White and ivory are both soft, neutral tones, but they have enough contrast to complement each other without clashing. The white napkins will stand out slightly against the ivory tablecloth, giving a clean, elegant look without being too jarring.

    • Timeless and Classic: The combination of ivory and white is quite classic, especially in more traditional or old-world settings. It’s understated but still very chic. Plus, your dress being dark ivory ties in beautifully with the overall theme.

    • Cost-Effective: Since the venue provides white napkins that are perfectly fine, using them will save you money without compromising the overall aesthetic. No need to worry too much about perfection with this kind of subtle contrast — it actually adds to the overall rustic or vintage vibe you’re going for!

    • Additional Touches: If you're concerned about the slight difference in shade, you can always add small touches like a ribbon or napkin ring that matches the ivory tone of your tablecloth, or even small floral arrangements in your centerpieces that tie the colors together.

Overall, it sounds like a great, cost-effective decision, and it should look just fine. White napkins on ivory linen can actually look quite sophisticated, and the slight contrast adds to the charm rather than taking away from it.

Good luck with your wedding planning! It sounds like it’s going to be beautiful ! 💍
