Who to have as my bridesmaids

George, 21 April, 2022 at 13:56 Posted on Planning 0 11
Hiya basically I'm going to be a male bride for my wedding (I'm going to wear a dress and ballet flats for my wedding and have bridesmaids) and was wondering/struggling with who should be my bridesmaids and who are/did you have as your bridesmaids?

The wedding/bridal party is usually close family and/or close friends.
I'm getting married July, I've got my two future sisters in law as chief bridesmaids, And I have four flowergirls which are my future nieces haha. My hubby to be bestman is his brother in law. I don't have such a large family unlike my OH and my family doesn't really have any little ones. So it seemed perfect to have his side of the family. He's a bit like a father figure/male role model to two of his nieces due to "issues" there, so they all adore him which is just too cute.
Do bare in mind that your "bridesmaids or best man etc" can be either gender. I've attended two weddings were the Groom had a best woman, and the other wedding, they had a female ring bearer as they didn't have any little boys in the family, to which got announced a few month after the wedding that bride was actually pregnant with a boy. Kinda sweet.Hope that helps.Best of luck. X

Yeah this helps alot thank you, oh ok yeah I have a few female family members I'm very close with so I'll definitely ask them then, oh ok yeah I have 1 niece and 1 nephew who I could ask to be the flower girl/boy (my nephew is very very autistic and only wears dresses and skirts so he will love being like a flower girl) , oh ok yeah we already have my partners best man sorted out so we aren't worried about that.
Thank you so much for your help I appreciate it

No problem. And if you can make your nephew happy as well it's a bonus, not often you can please the guests at a wedding. It all seems to be coming together for you both. You'll have to let me know how it goes.
    Good luck planning

The way I approached my wedding party was by thinking about two things:

    (1) Who has been there for me in the moments I've really needed someone?

    (2) Who would I want in the room with me getting ready, knowing I may well have a freak out about how I look or something that's gone wrong or even just be embarrassingly excited i.e. who can I be most myself around?

It might not be for you, but I have a few roles that I've given my friends:

Two bridesmaids - two female friends who tick those two boxes. (Note: FSIL is not a bridesmaid because, while I have no issues with her at all, she ticks neither of those boxes so don't feel you have to include family - or anyone! - just because.)

A male maid of honour - he's gay and wanted the "maid" title even though he uses he/him pronouns because he didn't want to "masculine up the role", he prefers to wear a suit but is going to wear something in the bridesmaid's colours and he'd prefer to look part of the girls group than the guys group. He ticks the same boxes as the bridesmaids but is also the most organised person I know and was always going to be the one taking on more of the planning because that's his way so I felt he deserved the 'top job' as it were!

Officiant - my oldest male friend, tbh he probably would have been MOH as we've been friends forever if it wasn't for the fact that we had this longstanding idea that he would officiate my future wedding (Joey from Friends style!). He's being treated as an honorary bridesmaid though which means he will be on my hen do but not coming along to things like the girls' dress shopping.

Two ushers - one is my best male friend, I almost made him a bridesman, but we wanted my brother to be an usher and these two get on super well and make a great double act so will be ideal as greeters on the day. This friend is also an honorary bridesmaid as I want him on my hen too.

Hope that helps a bit! Smiley smile

Oh ok yeah I've got a few female friends and a female cousin who are always there for me and I know I can definitely be with them whilst I'm getting ready on the big day so I'll consider them
Yeah those roles are good and I'll consider them definitely
Ooh OK yeah I have a very feminine male friend I could ask to do thatThanks for the help I appreciate it

I’m getting married in July and as I have two daughters they are BMs. They are 12 and 14 and really excited about it. My younger and only sister is my MOH and her three children aged 3,8 and 10 are BMs and a pageboy. As I’m 45 and this is my first marriage I didn’t think I needed my friends to be in the bridal party and using all family solved the issue of who to choose from my all friends!
