Who's walking down the aisle to something classical?

Unlikley Bride, 12 November, 2012 at 14:27 Posted on Planning 0 20

I have chosen Bach's Arisoso - but on listening to it last night I wondered if it might be a bit sad.

Who else is walking down to a classical piece and what?

We did. I can't actually remember what it was but we had a pianist who played classical music throughout the day including the ceremony.

All the classical songs I like are either too sad or too dramatic so we have decided to go for a classical cover of Beyonces Halo by Aston (check it out on youtube).

I was toying with Lesley Garrett's recording of Lascia Ch'io Pianga as it's such a beautiful aria (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ckEBz5P5Ao) but the lyrics are SO depressing when translated:

    Let me weep
    my cruel fate,
    and I sigh for liberty.
    May sorrow break these chains
Of my sufferings, for pity's sake

Don't think that's too suitable for a wedding, haha! So I think I'm going to walk down to the traditional Wedding March by Mendelssohn ?

We had "Angels Watching" by the O'Neill Brothers.

They also do a version of Cannon in D which we had played as the guests were being seated - I love the song but felt it was a VERY popular "walking down the aisle" song so wanted something a bit different.

Yep, I'm having Pachelbel's Canon in D Major. We liked quite a few different classical pieces, and had different preferences, but this is the one we both felt happy with! We'll have it played by a pianist and violinist.

Ludovico Einaudi is a bit more modern and beautiful. I am thinking Le Onde:

or I Giorni (which is a bit more popular)

Nearly all of my ceremony music was classical. I came in to "La Rejouissance" from Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks and left to Mendelssohn's wedding march. I also had classical pieces on the organ for my blessing service, and had the string quartet playing classical chamber music before the ceremony. I banned them from Pachelbel though. ? The only non-classical music I had was two instrumental pieces from musicals which were played during the signing of the register - Sun and Moon from Miss Saigon and One Hand, One Heart from West Side Story.

We left to La Rejouissance! I had the quartet compose a version of Music of the Night from Phantom. It turned out amazing..

Thank you all for your kind replies!

I'm going to have a look at The O'Neill Bros and Ludovico Einaudi to see if I can find inspiration :o)

Has anyone given Bach's Arioso a listen? Was wondering if anyone had an opinion on it? (to walk down the aisle)

I want to walk in to Handels La rejouissance, it's one of my fave's and a piece I played for one of my violin grades. I also like Handels Hornpipe from the water music, thomas tallis' 'If ye love me' and Ode to joy (mum and dad had this)

Forgot to mention, I am walking down the aisle to Canon in D too. It is one of my most favourite classical pieces. My other favourite is clair de lune by debussy but only if it's played on a piano!!! So Canon won and I have a string quartet plaing it for me.

We had Handel's "Let the Bright Seraphim" for organ, trumpet and soprano. Live musicians, not a CD. It's 6 mins long, so the congregation stood for a while before I came in, but then there's nothing like anticipation!

Pachelbel's Canon, has to be! Fabulous, it's beautiful. Played by the violinist Simon Jordan who is going on to play the piano for the reception afterwards. I get to choose all the music!
