Why are pigeons considered vermin?

Sare, 29 November, 2008 at 13:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I know lots of people consider pigeons to be vermin, especially Londoners and Ken Livingstone certainly did.

What is it they do that causes such a nuisance? I'm asking genuinely because where I live we don't have many, although some local people seem to have a similar stance on seagulls. That's mainly because of noise and them roosting on houses, is it similar for pigeons?

Not sure about the exact reasons, but I do know that their guano high in uric acid, which is corrosive and high in nitrogen, which means lots of nasty fungus can grow on it

feral pigeons can carry a lot of diseases too

In London, they just breed uncontrollably because idiots feed them. Their poo corrodes buiodings and statues and stuff and they carry disease. Also, they invade people's flats. Evil piggyons.

Why doesn't Wiki have technical answers like this??

I can understand about the poo and buildings and stuff.Although I have to say one of my favourite memories of London as a child was feeding them in Trafalgar Square?
