wine on tables?

Hi everybody, is anybody or has anybody put wine on their tables and if so how many bottles? My venue have decided to change my bespoke wedding to a package wedding that doesn't cover drinks on the table. My tables have minimum of 8 or maximum of 10 on and not sure how many bottles to cover everyone having a glass of wine? We were thinking of doing wine for the ladies and a bottle of beer for the men but trying to work out price. I have 50 guest's in total if that helps? Just feel a bit stuck on how many bottles of wine I will need? Xx

    The usual thing seems to be half a bottle per person. We had tables of eight, with two bottles of red and two of white on each table. Some of our guests are real lushes and drank more, others don't drink at all, so it evened out. It seems reasonable to allow two glasses per person, so that they can have one with the starter and one with the main course, but if you're thinking of allowing one glass per person, here's how to work it out:

    1 bottle of wine = 750cl

    1 large glass = 250cl (3 glasses per bottle)

    1 medium glass = 175cl (~4 glasses per bottle)

    A small glass is = 125cl (6 glasses per bottle)

    One good tip a friend who was already married gave me - before the wedding, arrange with the venue to collect all the wine bottles off the tables at the end of the meal and put them behind the bar. Whenever anyone goes to the bar for a glass of wine, use that until it runs out, thus saving your guests the cost of a drink (or in our case, reducing the bar tab). If the wine is left on the tables, apparently people won't necessarily help themselves and you risk it going to waste.

    P.S. we ended up with no white wine and three unopened bottles of red left - but I think my dad may have over-catered when he bought it.

    We have 90 guests and 45 bottles of wine (25 white & 20 rose)

    also 28 bottles of prosseco for the toasts.

    we was told that half a bottle per person is normal. We haven't set a number of bottles per table as the table numbers range from 8-12.

    if you were to have wine for everyone i'd say 25 but work out how many you'd need for half a bottle per women. (We wanted to give buckets of beer but our venue said guests wouldn't drink it. They haven't met our friends yet!)

    Thank you everyone thats been a massive help. Felt a bit stressed when i first spoke to the venue as we are working on our budget penny by penny and i thought i knew what money was coming from where and then tell me this?? Works out that it should be cheaper for us, in 2 minds still whether to do beer and wine or just wine but i've managed to work out rough prices. Will feel better once venue has come back with a new contract and price but thank you so much for your replies x

    P.S sorry for the little rant!! Bloody venue!! ?

    I'd only add that you should definitely make it a minimum 3 bottles for a table of 10.

    We went to a wedding where it was 2 bottles, and myself and my partner didn't get any at all. Literally a dry dinner.

    No need to put more than 5 out for a table of 10 (ie. the traditional 1/2 bottle each), so work in the 3-5 bottle range for a table of 10, and make the final decision based on your budget.
