Wish tree instead of guest book

28 April, 2011 at 13:03 Posted on Planning 0 23

I REALLY want one but OH is saying no! He has no valid reason for not letting me have what i want (he is so misbehaved!!) he just says he doesnt like them.

My plan would be to make one. Ok, maybe when i say make one, I mean my Dad to make me one.

Has anyone made one/hired one? Anyone have any pics?

I need as much as possible to go back to him with to convince him. I REALLY want it!!

    This is my inspiration:

Have bought cherry blossom branches. Started designing my tags last night (Thanks FMJ).

    Pros of a wish tree...

You can edit what you keep - we have a big willy drawn in our guest book!

No wasted pages - our guest book is only half full!

Makes a pretty decoration for the venue

    Cons of a wish tree...

Not as commonin the world of weddings - may need explanations for some folk

    Those are my initial thinkings...

Pros - Aside from keeping the original wish tags, I am going to scan them and use them as part of our photobook.

I made one and i thought it was lovely and have kept it as a big ornament in my bedroom, pic is at start of wedding so you can see all the tags people wrote on to hang on it during the day

ETA ours was mentioned in my dads speech and he asked everyone to write on it so they knew what it was

I think its just that the majority of OHs don't see new/unconventional things in magazines etc like we do, so aren't sure about certain stuff! I like the idea of a wish tree, or maybe a pile of personalised postcards that I can stick in an album afterwards. Sorry haven't got any photos!

Filled the bucket with sand and just stuck em in, my mum made it with branches she collected from the woods!

I like wish trees and agree with Mrs C. Our guest book is almost empty (mainly due to my BMs doing naff all). Bitter, me?!

The wedding I went to at the weekend had a photo of the couple in the middle mounted onto card and put in a frame. We all signed the card. Might be another idea?

ETA: Love your wish tree Nabs!

I've seen a few of these at weddings... Mr C said no as he wouldn't want it on the wall. I would also advise if you are going to do this to get it circulated early! If it is going on the wall then you can't be having drunky writings!!!

Key thing is, like everyone else has said, to publicise the guest book/ wish tree. I am gutted we haven't got many comments in ours.

I would personally say not liking them is a very valid reason for him not wanting you both to have one.

That said, has he seen one in real life to make that decision? What are you planning to do with the cards from it afterwards? Could anything there be used to presuade him it's a nicer option than a guestbook there for example? Something more unique to you, or a cool way of displaying them? Could he be thinking your going to collect them and stick them in a book anyway, so why not cut out the middle man? I am thinking something like this as a way of displaying them after in your home/office and might work to persuade him:

Or, Do you have lots of guests for example which might be mean a massive queue for the guestbook, meaning it might get ignored or not everyone will write in it, so a wish tree would solve the problem?

We had one! everyone though it was a great idea! mum arleady had the vases, we got the twigs from a florist and the pebbles from ikea and hse already had some pearl garlands to draped over.

there is a little frame at the front with a message saying "message tree, if you would like to leave a message for the bride and groom, please write it on a luggage tag and hang on the tree"

I agree that its handy u can throw some out! we got a couple of stupid ones! our plan is to get an album and stick them in along side a photo from the wedding of the guest that wote the message!

Fine to be honest we picked them a few days before and kept them with the cut ends in water and on the day put them in the bucket which is filled with sand, and it was great for a few days, the green has pretty much all dropped off now but the branches are still fine in the bucket!

    Hi

I love the wish tree idea, and have been looking for one but decided to make my own, i have just got a twisted willow tree £9.99 from home base, more than enough branches, and look beautiful as all twisted, might spray paint them... And going to glue oasis in the bottom of a vase, and have got some pearls to hang of it too!

But i think it might need some explanation, has anyone found a wish tree poem to use?

Also what are people using for the guests to write on?

    xxx

I think these wish trees look great! My best friend got us a guest book as an engagement present but it only has thirty pages in it so we weren't sure if it would be enough for our guests but after reading a lot of comments about half empty/spare pages in guest books maybe we'll just stick to this......x

We had one with a little sign next to it explaining what to do, it was quite popular and we had lots fo tags by the end of the night, def the good thing is you can keep the ones you won't and not the rude ones!

I thought these were a bit stupid when I first heard of them, but I've been converted! Will be nice to have something different to all the other married couples I know irl too.

I just showed this to my OH to try and suggest we should have one. His comment? "Are those condoms hanging on a tree?" hmm going to have to keep trying on this one!
