Wood slices for centre piece

cm_ljw, 16 March, 2013 at 11:03 Posted on Planning 0 15

I know someone who knows a tree surgeon and this was my plan to get some wood slices for the centre pieces, about 20cm across as the tables aren't huge. However i'm struggling to get in contact with them, so am now looking to the internet! Has anyone found a supplier of these for their wedding? I know they are becoming more popular as table decorations now.

Thanks! ?

    Lovely idea!

Where are you based? I know someone who may be able to help in Canterbury, Kent.

Let me know If you'd like their details.

Sylvester at www.artisanoak.couk might be able to help. He has a huge yard filled with Oak and was fantastic when we were building our house. He was able to create some more unusual items (not on website) using his clever machines! Don't be put off by his stand-offish attitude, he really is great once he warms up!

Luckily OH's best friend is a tree surgeon, so we got ours for free. But I would second the route of just contacting lots of tree surgeons in the area and offering them a crate of beer or something in return.

Where abouts are you located? We're getting married in 11 days, wo will have some spare ones going begging once we're married :o)

They're a variety, but probably about 30cm accross and maybe 4-5 cm thick? I'm in Suffolk btw.

I emailed a guy I found in the yellow pages.

He was brilliant, got me just what I wanted, he dried them out for me and only charged £2 per slice or free if I gave them back after the wedding.

Don't be put off because you can't contact one, I bet there are loads more tree surgeons out there.

I think we have about 12! We'll probably keep one or two for posterity, but if the rest make it out of the venue in alright condition (and aren't pilfered by friends or family) then I'm happy for anyone to have them but they will need to collect.

I am from leicestershire and getting married there. My florist just literally did a photoshoot using slices at the weekend and she is not only one of my favourite supplier because she is so nice, but she is also really good. She has posted the pics on facebook - search for julie-anna flowers on facebook.

Think she can help you for sure!

    Hi,

I'm a bit late joining this but was wondering how you got on or if you found anything? Or if anyone still had any slices they no longer needed? I'm getting married in August and am going for something of a woodland theme as we got engaged in a giant Sequoia tree. Finding it near impossible to find some slices to buy online as it all seems to be US based and very little in UK. Etsy has a lot but not all ship to UK and prices are astronomical. I've emailed a couple of tree surgeons but not had any replies as yet and am currently talking to a sculpture who is going to give a quote but im expecting it to be quite high. Also, does anyone know how likely it would be for the slices to split or warp if just come natural from a tree surgeon after being sliced?

    Any help appreciated

I I found someone who makes them in the midlands area (but ships them all over the country). They were £6.50 a slice and made to my measurements

His e-bay page is http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/ruep007?ssPageName=ADME:X:eRTM:GB:1181 he goes by 'Rustic Ruep'.
