Never heard of a bells macaroni pie from the supermarket either!

Am imissing out on something rather nice or is it a good thing that Ive not heard of them before?!?

See I have a vision of macaroni in a sauce encased in piecrust pastry which seems rather odd!

Goog grief, my first thoughts of macaroni in pastry were right. What a very odd idea.

Are they a Scottish thing? I live in Edinburgh and they're in all the supermarkets here, plus Greggs sell them. I hadn't seen them before I moved here.

Curious as to why the OP was asking if we would consider them to be vegetarian?

I've never heard of Bells Macaroni Pie.

As far as macaroni cheese is concerned it would depend I'd have to check if vegetarian cheese had been used for example, or if it contained bacon (I put this in sometimes at home).

If it had a crust it would depend on how the pastry had been made.

Sorry, it must be a north scotland thing.

they look vile but did taste rather yummy in the oven with some sauce on the top? until I just found something rather disturbing in one.

HH, the reason I said eh, I thought macaroni pies were common over the place. Didn't realise that they weren't and as I am one hand typing with my 6 month ol, my reply was taking longer to write than it would have, so I cross posted.

Apologises to those that require it

(and yes you can get them deep fried at chippies up here but they are[xx(])

Its just macaroni cheese in a pie crust

My first instinct was 'no' because macaroni pie in our family really means pastitsio, which of course uses lamb or beef mince.

I also found the 'eh' to be comically rude.

Mrs Jess, these paltry excuses for food go a long way towards explaining the obesity epidemic in scotland. ?

    ??[xx(] at this thread.

Akcherloi, it's quite likely they aren't vegetarian, as the cheese could well contain rennet and the pastry be lard-based. But in my experience <flameproof suit on> vegetarians are a bunch of hypocrites who happily ignore little details like that.

Did you find a hare in it? In which case, it wouldn't be vegetarian!

A huge chunk of what looks like cooked finger? (which I may add would maybe have increased the flavour quite considerably ?)

Apologies to those again that I thought I was being rude/offensive and to those that will be having nightmares tonight of being fed one

Macaroni pie is a caribeen speciality, its like a baked macaroni cheese. that is just a made up thing.

For me it would depend on whether the cheese was veggie ina proper one but the tinned thing is probably full of gelatine and so on so I would say no.

If you've found a piece of finger in it I'm not sure that whether it's vegetarian or not is relevant in any way whatsoever ? Unless it's part of a special line marketed at cannibals.

? I'm one of those vegetarians but I don't claim to be an ethical vegetarian so I reckon I'm ok ?

My favourite example of the above was when a certain friend of mine (an ethical vegetarian) gave me a long lecture about wearing a leather coat. When I pointed out her leather trainers she looked really surprised and said "but I need these for running!".
