Would you hire high end faux flowers, or buy a preserved bridal bouquet?

Grace, 28 January, 2025 at 14:03 Posted on Planning 3 20

Hello everyone!

I am a trained florist and so sick of the expense and unsustainability of fresh flowers!

I ONLY work with preserved and high-end naturalistic faux. I am setting up a floral hire company for the high-end faux and the preserved floral bouquets would be purchased (these last for years). I just need a bit of guidance on whether this would be something of interest to couples out there.

Here is a small survey:

  • Would you consider hiring faux flowers for your wedding? Why or why not?
  • How important is sustainability in your wedding planning?
  • What is your budget for floral arrangements?
  • Would you pay extra for high-end, realistic faux flowers?

If you have the time to answer a few of these questions and leave your email, I will contact you with a future discount!

Best wishes,

Grace

I've already got married, but to answer your questions:

    • Would you consider hiring faux flowers for your wedding? Absolutely not - I'd rather go without than have fake ones!

    • Why or why not? I'm a gardener and I love real flowers and plants.

    • How important is sustainability in your wedding planning? Very - that's why I worked with a local florist who grows a lot of her own material and asked for her to use in-season flowers as much as possible. After the wedding, the bouquet lasted for a couple of weeks in a vase (apart from a few bits I dried/pressed to use in craft) and I composted it once it was done. The ribbon and pins etc were saved for reuse.

    • What is your budget for floral arrangements? n/a

    • Would you pay extra for high-end, realistic faux flowers? No.

I’m beginning to look into faux flowers for our upcoming wedding. I love the idea of being able to hold onto my flowers forever. At the moment the cost of flowers for use for a couple of hours is ridiculous & they just end up in the bin.
I’d really need to have a good think whether I could hire the flowers to then hand them back. But I do think that is a good idea which I’ll be keeping in mind.If I would use real flowers then I’d have looked into how to preserve them for after the wedding.
    Hope this helps xx

If having real ones isn't important to you and you want to keep them, then faux makes sense.

Or you could maybe look at having a mix - maybe hiring faux arrangements for decor and a real bouquet - or buying real plants for decor (which you could plant out afterwards) and hiring a bouquet.

If you go down the real bouquet route, there are loads of ideas for preserving. I pressed some of my flowers and made air-dry clay decorations with the pressed flowers stuck on. 4.5 years on, they're still looking really good. I also had some flowers preserved in a resin bookmark.

I’m looking at faux flowers for my wedding, ideally I’d love fresh flowers but with the amount of people at my wedding (250 guests) it’s super unsustainable for me to get 25 centerpieces for tables etc. ideally I’d love a mix of faux/fresh where I just get faux for tables and staircases and then real for personal items (bouquets, buttonholes) and top table and an arch. It’s just really hard to do that because I want it to look consistent too and I’m yet to find a vendor who can do both well.

Artificial flowers are a suitable option if you're an excessively possessive bride who demands that every element of your wedding, from the decorations to the flowers, match. Whether you choose artificial or fresh flowers, you must ultimately be satisfied and delighted with your choice.

    Hi
We’re considering dried flowers as there are a few places nearby who do beautiful dried colourful bouquets. Plus I like the idea of sustainability/less waste.
I hadn’t heard of preserved flowers before but looked them up and they’re lovely!

Hi Grace, I’m really interested in the idea of high-end faux flowers or preserved bouquets for weddings. Sustainability is important to me, and I like the idea of flowers that last and reduce waste. I’d be willing to pay extra for realistic faux flowers, especially if it helps with long-term preservation and cost.

    • I've considered dried flowers for our wedding, but these would only be mine and my 3 bridesmaids bouquets and that's it. my FH has terrible allergies which means fresh flowers would be a problem for him. it's also incredibly expensive and a waste when they begin to die mid-ceremony.

    • Would you consider hiring faux flowers for your wedding? Only in small locations like the registrar table if I felt it needed it - not for centre pieces or bouquets.

    • Why or why not? I don't particularly like faux flowers, I think they tend to look too fake and a little cheap so I would rather have no flowers than faux ones for other locations of the venue.
    •
    • How important is sustainability in your wedding planning? It's not at the forefront of my planning but I am trying to keep things as sustainable as possible.
    •
    • What is your budget for floral arrangements? £200

    • Would you pay extra for high-end, realistic faux flowers? Depends entirely if I like the look of them and I feel they would enhance anything.
