One of my colleagues did on monday to our boss saying she would be off for the next two days due to a cold. Am I being really old fashioned because I think this is so out of line! Surely you should phone! She is a professional with a demanding job with people who rely on her, whilst I can accept you can be ill at anytime, but after a two week holiday how did she know that our boss would even get the text, numbers change, phones get lost/stolen,batteries are flat or texts not read etc etc!

I love texting and text daily to my friends, but would not consider sending a text to my boss/line manager to say I was not coming in!

Would you text in sick?

I've texted in sick to work in the past, but I think they were exceptional circumstances as I was having a miscarriage and on my way to hospital for an emergency scan...

My manager was a bit off with me when I phoned in the next day to explain, until she actually heard the reason. Then she told me not to come into work until I was ready.

Some managers prefer a phone call to confirm your absence, while others are fine with a quick text. Before you decide, consider your company’s policy and your relationship with your boss. After all, your credibility matters. And if you're wondering who is she texting it might just be HR—learn more at https://greatlakesastrology.com/who-is-she-texting/ In today’s digital age, texting has become a common form of communication even for calling in sick to work. While convenient, it may come off as unprofessional depending on your workplace culture.
