WP related - wedding dress repair and cleaning

I love shoes, 18 August, 2008 at 17:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Am posting over here as most of you are married already..

I need to get my dress cleaned and repaired prior to me selling it on and am struggling to find somewhere to do it..

Any ideas

Cleaning wise - has any one heard of Perry de Montaignac? I got a card through the post last week but cant find any reviews

Repairs - I need the bustle loop fixing (it sort of broke when I was on the bouncy castle) and if possible (though I appreciate its fairly unlikely) a small tear in the organza

Its a silk dress if that makes any difference

TIA?

We use Terrington Burchett for cleaning our samples - they're recommended by some of the bigwig dress manufacturers (Benjamin Roberts use them for their own samples), and they do a grand job of getting dresses cleaned. They will arrange for your dress to be collected and returned to you. If your dress is silk, you should really go down the specialist cleaning route.

For repairs, I'd suggest you ask the person that did your alterations if they'd be able to help you out there. Take some advice from Terrington Burchett about whether they'd advise repairs before or after cleaning as well. They're very helpful.

I don't know how easy it would be to mend a tear in the organza (might be a specialist mending job) but the dressmaker might be able to advise of companies that do that if she can't help you herself.

    Hiya ?

The shop I bought my dress from gave me recommendations of where I could get it cleaned. Failing that, any dress shop might be able to help.

(Not that I cleaned my dress - its folded up in the attic ?)

Just looked at Terrington Burchett and either they have copied the website from Perry de Montaignac or the other way round as its word for word the same...

I will contact my dress shop but really dont want to have to take it back there as its a long way away and was hoping for something more local, will contact them though regarding the repairs and see if they can reccommend anyone..

    Thanks

I used my tesco vouchers and got it cleaned at Johnsons, they send them away to their central specialist cleaners. I was really pleased and it was free!

    Hi,

I have the Maggie sottero Martina dress which has swarovski crystals and beads sewn on. Have Terrington Burchett cleaned a similar dress for you? I'm concerned that the cleaning may damage the crystals.

    Thanks, Helen

    Hiya,

Just wanted to say to anyone still seeking advice, that I have just recently had my dress cleaned, repaired and boxed by Perry De Montaignac and I was absolutely delighted with the results.. Very easy to use, great customer service, sparkling clean dress and beautiful storage box....

I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them...

    J.

My preloved maggie has crystals and beads on and was cleaned at Johnsons. It is in perfect condition and not too expensive either.
