Your first car (and car bump/scrape)

*Ducky*, 4 of December of 2012 at 11:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 61

My first car was this:

It was soooo uncool. I came home from sixth form one day and my Mum had bought it for me as 'it only had 26,000 miles on the clock' and then proceeeded to tell me how much I owed her. I was so excited to have a car, I started paying her back regardless of it's uncoolness.

My first car scrape was when I drove into a (massive, obvious) bollard that protected the window of the McDonald's drive-through. The guy serving was a huuuuuge crush of mine and I could have died with embarrassment after driving into his window bollard. I drove off with indicator flapping in the wind until I superglued it back on.

I don't have a picture of my first car however it is still my current car *knocks on wood* and is a blue Ford Ka! Only done 44,000 miles and is a W Reg!

My first bump was when I drove into the back of someone....opps! Luckily it was nothing too serious & my car came out of it with not a scratch and the car didn't have too much damage either!

This isn't my actual car, but it's the same one. Mazda 121 lx. It was a complete box on wheels and about 15 years old, but I loved that car.

My first bump wasn't until my second car (Fiat Punto) when I was going to Tesco's and it had a stupid hair pin bend to get in that I couldn't see properly because it was dark and raining and winter and my windows were all misted up. My back wheel went up on the kerb and bashed an already crumpled fence railing thing. It got hit on a regular basis and I complained a lot and they decided to take the fence down.

    This was mine!

I loved her ? she was my lovely little micra!

My first scrape was reversing into someone in the carpark after work one day! It was a pay & display car park and I still had a couple of hours left on my ticket, so I was trying to be nice, I reversed out my space quickly to try and catch up with a woman who was about to put her money into the machine as I wanted to give her my ticket, and I was too busy caring about this other lady that I reversed into another car. I got out, had a little bit of damage on mine, but no damage to the other car, I waited and waited for about 25mins and nobody came, I had no paper to leave my details, and I decided that as there was no damage I would just drive off, as I couldn't wait forever. Just as I pulled out the carpark, the lady must have returned and came screaming and banging on my car window, calling me all sorts, saying someone had told her I'd hit her car and drove straight off! So I then burst into tears (scary woman, I was only 18!) and gave her my details while she screamed at me some more. So basically, that is the last time I ever try to do anything nice for anyone!!

I had one of these bad boys

And my first bump was when I dropped my lip gloss and bent down to get it while still driving (idiot) and flew into the curb and my wheel fell off.

Then, the next one, I went into the back of someone when arguing with my boyfriend at the time.

Then I drove into a van that was parked and scraped the whole passenger side. I denied all knowledge of it and said someone must have gone into me.

    Poor litte Fiesta...

I had a bright green Citroen AX (model before the Saxo). I loved it but it was a death trap.

I've been driving 7 years and haven't had an accident so far but I did do something similar to Misselle on the other thread, I squeezed my hire car between a BMW and a post in a multistorey in Birmingham.

My first car was a purple KA but soon after I passed my test I got the car I always wanted, a little red Tigra - it was this car that I had a little mishap in.

I went to the dentist one day and all the spaces at the back were full. I was pushed for time so decided to go to the crappy rear car park that was tiny and awkward. I parked up easy went to the dentist, came back and reversed out of my space, maneuvered to swing the car around to leave through the single driveway, took some attempts as it was really small with walls and fences everywhere and a stupidly placed tree. I reversed and went forward again and got my rear wheel arch stuck on a stump (where a branch had been cut off). I couldn't go much more forward because there was a fence and I was stuck!! I had no idea what to do. I tried, I failed, got more stuck. So needed help. Toddled off to the office that was below the dentist and begged for help!! A man came out and thankfully I had good suspension so as I pulled forward he lifted the wheel arch to get me off the tree! I was free!!! The car had a couple of scratches and never again have I parked in that car park!! Lesson well and truly learnt Smiley smile

I've only had my first car since April this year, it's a metallic green Fiat Punto. My first scrape was against a lamp post while trying to reverse out of a tight spot in a car park and not even noticing the lamp post was there! My poor car is looking a bit battered after having a car accident on the motorway recently, but that one wasn't my fault.

My first car was a blue Vauxhall Nova, which was marginally cool because you could pimp it up massively. I never did though.

Never crashed or bumped. Well, unless a tiny touch (no damage) on someone else's bumper when parallel parking counts? Someone went into the back of me once, but I had a tow bar on and it ruined his bumper/license plate - my car was fine.

It was a silver Ka with body coloured bumpers, CD player and Aircon! It was about 3 years old when I got it and I had it for about 3 years. By the time I was done with it (OH said it was a death trap) it had a big rust hole in the sill and the suspension was dodgy.

First bump was a week after I got it when I reversed into an iron gate.it was pitch black out, heavy rain so I couldn't see. I has these awful tiger stripes on the back. I got some silver crayon type thing to full them in, but they still looked awful. I also reversed too far and scraped just under the boot n some overhanging brickwork. Third, and worst scrape was reversing up my mums driveway the morning after a big night out. I was still a bit drunk and tired, and I managed to so a big deity scrape in the passenger door.

Now, some 8 years later, I am proud to say I am a lot better at reversing!

My first car was very similar to Rod's, except it was blue.

It was an amazing little car and lasted me well. Only cost me £900.

The first scrape came when I was on holiday. Stupidly, the car parking space for the cottage I was staying in was at a 90 degree angle to the road with a brick wall either side of the space. I turned the wheel a little too early and got my car stuck on the wall. Oops. Managed to get out of the situation, but the car was completely dented down one side.

I scrapped it after that using the Governments' scrappage scheme!

My first car was a green Citroen Saxo. I loved that car. Never had a scrape or bump into though.

my first bump was on summer camp with a 100 year 7s! I moved my car, but had been bitten to death by evil things and had all those infected bites on my leg. I was going about 2mph, but my foot wouldn't lift off the floor to touch the brake....at 2mph I curbed the car and hit my headlight on the scout hall porch. And all the kids came running round to see what the noise was!! *shame*

My first car was an Austin Allegro similar to this (yes I am that OLD). She was bright orange and she was called Clementine. I had just passed my driving test and arrived home from work and this orange thing was sat on the drive. I casually asked "who's is that thing on the drive" and the response was "your car". I was a little shocked but absolutely loved her. My first "fight" was with something similar to this and, to be fair, my little Clementine came off worse!! Ooops!

I learned to drive in my mum's Golf which was pretty nice. The first (and only) car I've owned myself was a Toyota Lightace when I was living in NZ. It was heap of junk but it lasted us a year and had everything we needed to travel about and was reasonably comfy to sleep in. I miss it sooooo much.

Only bump I've ever had in 9 years was clipping my wing mirror on a parked car when I was passing a bus in a narrow road.

I don't have a picture of my first car with me, I'll try and add one later. It was a blue ford escort and I loved it.

My first "bump or scrape" was more of a write off than anything else. An oil tanker decided to pull out from the wrong side of the road and swing into me whilst I was doing 70 MPH ? I bounced down the road for a mile and hit walls and hedges etc! I had to be cut out of the car, and the car was pretty much destroyed.

I then had a citroen AX, it was basically a tin can on wheels, thank god I had the escort when I had the crash!

This is my little beaut Henry, went from Cheshire to Edinburgh to buy him and I reluctantly sold him to a bloke in Ireland.

I knew I had to have him cause it has KJ on the number plate, Geek Alert- this photo was at one of many shows me and my pops went to Smiley laugh

And this is his new owner driving him away *SOB*

I think my first bump was in the college car park, the second in a multi story- I cried both times even tho my pops was magic at mending him Smiley smile

We did tonnes and tonnes of work on him- wings, alloys arches, new seats (had to have ones with integral head rests so I could do my driving test in the car- health &safety of course!) and much much more- really miss him now looking back at these!

A C reg red Ford Fiesta.

I used to pass it on the bus on the way into school when it was on sale & thought that looks like a nice little car. A couple of weeks later, best friend announces she's bought a car & it was the red Fiesta! I bought it off her when she went off to uni. I hadn't driven since passing my test over a year before and went down to Hertfordshire to collect it & drove it all the way back to Suffolk without stopping! To be fair the roads were absolutely empty because it was the morning of Princess Diana's funeral so nobody was out & about.

The week I moved into my flat I had an argument with a metal post in the work car park - it put a massive dent in the side of the car.

I was, I broke my jaw in 2 places and now have metal plates. Lost a load of teeth in the process too. Also got some fairly big scars on my arm which are still there 14 years on.

It's so long ago now though I almost feel like it happened to someone else.

I was in hospital for about 10 days, and then couldn't use my arm for about another 2 weeks after that so was unable to drive for that long anyway. My mum then pretty much forced me back out in a car, I am so grateful she did as I think the longer I'd have left it the bigger it would have become. I am now a very confident driver, but a terrible passenger. C goes mad sometimes as I literally flinch, duck, and make wincing noises when he's driving! He is a good driver but i basically don't trust anyone else on the road.

Well done Mummy Imp- gotta get straight back on the horse so to speak.

Since I drive less these past few years I am also a terrible passenger- feel fine driving myself.

In bold is exactly when I tell my OH but it still annoys him when I shout Brake!

I don't have a photo of my first car, but my Nan does of me standing next to it. She was so proud ?

It was a Y reg VW Polo bought in the early Noughties so it was VERY OLD then already. It cost my Dad £25 from some dude at our local cricket club. He thought it was broken and he needed more beer tokens. It cost my Dad £6.78 to repair a faulty thermostat. Lasted me long enough to see me through 6th form and a bit beyond.

My one bump/scrape *touch wood* was when a feckin' eejit smashed into my boot in the fast lane on the M25. A motorcyclist came off his bike in front of us, me and the car in front managed to stop in time so we didn't hit him but the guy behind me didn't and hit me at a ridiculous speed. I tried to get out of the car, realised I couldn't move very well, got threatened with being cut out so I got out because I didn't want them to break my car (which was later written off). Was taken to hospital in an ambulance strapped to one of those boards because they thought I'd broken my back or neck or something. Turned out I only had severe whiplash but my back and neck have never been the same since. I've just come back from the Chiropractor having been realigned and poked in the buttock by him several times...

Always remember the 2 second rule...?

Ahh i had a old schoool ford fiesta..white..called trixibelle. had her whilst i was at uni, best car ever!! On my way back one time to uni, i nipped into a mottorservice station so parked on the sdie bit away from the pumps. Came back few mins later and some douchbag had parked infront of me so close i had to reverse backa nd forth a gabillion time (real amount) to get out. By the 5th time i was hacked off so reversed sharply and hit what i thought was the kerb and drove off.

got to uni an hour later and got out of the car, as i got to the boot to open to get my stuff out...i saw it and cried. the boot was crumpled in, i couldnt open the boot or the back passenger door...id hit a bollard when i reversed out of the service staion!!

it was write off but being a poor stduent daddy panel beat it out and sprayed it for me ?

I've actually never owned my own car! I was just insured on my mum's Renault Clio for a few years, even when I wasn't living there. I've been pretty lucky with regards to scrapes. The second time I went out on my own I had a bit of an incident ... there was a bus that was at the bus stop on the high street, I thought I had enough room to manoeuvre round it so I went to overtake My First Bus and then BOOM! Wing mirror clipped. Luckily it just folded back and didn't come off but as it was only the second time I'd been out on my own it really shook me!

I haven't driven for well over a year now as I didn't need a car where I lived in London (still don't now) - goodness knows what I'll be like when I get back behind the wheel. I'm kind of nervous!

Mine was a 1994 Fiat Punto, similar to the below.

He was called Dave (as his last three letters were DAV).

I was trying to do a three point turn in a really narrow road (sans power steering), and went up on to the kerb. I had to edge into the bush on the pavement. Annoyingly the bush concealed a large metal post. I smashed one headlight and made it wonky. Oooops.

Pretty much everything that Mini said. Mine was vay sexy too, me and dad did a lot of work to it.

My first (and only) bump was in this car. I was following my boyf at the time in his car and my brakes failed at 30mph. Crashed into the back of his car.

This is similar to H's car (minus the chav sticker) that we shared when I passed and I wrote off after around a month or two of driving...

I then bought Peggy as a replacement and did this damage to her in the summer when I had a disagreement with the wall at work:
