Yuk! WWYD

cornflake girl, 25 May, 2009 at 19:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

We've been out for the day along the north east coast - Whitley Bay etc. On the way back we decided to pop to a supermarket. We used the SAT Nav and it took us to a Sainsburys at a place called Cramlington. Anyway we bought a few bits for our tea and some pure orange juice - Sains own brand, the kind in the carton with a twist lid.

I've just gone into the fridge to get some of the aforementioned juice and discovered that it was already open (broken seal). So, I shouted of H to ask him if he'd had some. He said he hadn't and so I commented that it was open. I looked inside and not only was the seal broken but it looked like some of the juice was missing. I've poured it into a measuring jug and there is only 800ml and there is meant to be 1 litre. There is no sign of any leakage and the seal has obviously been purposely broken. You can't really tell that the seal is broken until you unscrew it.

I can only presume that some disgusting being has opened it, had a swig of it and put it back on the shelf ? We are now left without orange juice as I'm not drinking out of it and the shop is now shut. Also, I'm not going back to Cramlington as it is over 40 minutes drive away. I want to tell them at Sainsburys really cos it is disgusting that someone has got away with that without anyone noticing. I also think it's a bit crap that you can't tell very easily that the seal is broken. WWYD?

    Oh that is reallly rank!

I would call customer services about it in the morning. Not worth treking back for (petrol would probably cost more than the refund as well).

You'll be able to return it to any sainsbury's.

It's awful but this kind of thing happens a lot, it's just pretty rare for it not to be noticed. Half eaten sandwiches get shoved amongst tins etc.

You do know that Sainsbury's don't put the ring pull seals into their cartons anymore don't you? It may not have been tampered with at all.

well to be fair to them, if you didn't notice when you took it off the shelf, you can't really blame the shop workers for not doing so either.

some people are revolting, i once got to the check out of asda and realised someone had opened and helped themselves to some of the dry roasted peanuts i was buying. i realised this when i picked the bag up and the entire contents spilled out. ?

but it wasn't asda's fault that some of their customers are skanks.

i'd ask for a refund if you have a sainsburys local to you, otherwise i'd just leave it as one of those irksome things of life

If I told you that it was H that got it off the shelf, put it in the basket and then in the fridge then I'm sure you'd understand why I didn't notice. Men don't look properly!

    Yuk to the peanuts too!

Yes, I do. That doesn't explain why it had 200ml missing. The seal was definately broken on it. They're usually really difficult to twist.

Okay, then yuk! Just wanted to make sure you knew that as I had one at the weekend which I thought had been opened because it didn't have the ring pull tab and I was about to tip it down the sink when I noticed the message on the side about them removing the tabs. Def complain to Sainsbury's.
