Hi there! This is my first post, as I joined today!

My fiance (that still sounds weird!) and I got engaged 2 weeks ago, and are throwing a few ideas around at the moment, starting to make plans.

We definatley want to get married abroad, and are so far planning (hopefully) to get married in Zante next year, either in June or September. We went on holiday there last year and fell in love with it, and we are going back this June. We stayed in Alykanas which is a beautiful part of the country, and we think this is where we would like to get married! The websites and brochures we have looked through mostly advertise weddings in Tsilivi and other ares of the island, which although lovely are not where I've set my heart on.

Has anyone used wedding planners based in Zante, and has anyone got any recommendations on how to organise all the little details that will make it perfect for us?

    ? I'm a little scared for you!

We've had a really productive wedding weekend - we sat down on Friday night, with cocktails (although I forgo to get Del Boy umbrellas. Sigh.) and went through our lists of stuff we've got left to do. We then went out on Saturday afternoon, AND BOUGHT MR B'S CLOTHES!!!!!!!!!!

He all of a sudden decided he didn't want linen any more, so got a pair of grey trousers (from Burtons of all places - quite thin material, so he should keep cool) a very cool designer white shirt, with black and white checks under the collar, below the button bit and under the cuffs - reduced from £60 to £30! He also ordered a grey/silver waistcoat from our local tailors. He already has shoes he's never warn, also with a slightly checkered pattern so will match the shirt. He looked so handsome! ?
His stuff all came in about £45 under budget!

I'm currently ordering bits to make our invites from too. Which are also coming in under budget!

Busy busy times. Now going to send off some emails to the hotel manager in zante, Frances, a local caterer and our reception venues. I feel another cocktail coming on! ?

I've been looking at bridesmaid dress for my matron of honour and bouquets/button holes etc. picked the invites for the party back home, so its just save/save/save now lolx the men are having black trousers and white shirts so i'll get them soon i'm thinking if we can save and get something each month for the wedding plus put something away to actually pay for it by the time we fly out in August we should be ok!!!

Hi Shankins, welcome to the site, and congrats on your upcoming wedding.

I'm getting married on the 14th June in Tsilvili......coming round way too quick!!

I have booked through Thomson and we were given our date within 3 or 4 weeks of booking it ( we were advised it could have been up to 6 weeks). We were also told we must have this date confirmed before we could plan anything.....including family and friends going out as if the date could not be confirmed within our 2 week hol then they would move our holiday and the wedding, however would not refund for any family members or other plans we had made. When did you book? We were e-mailed by the wedding co-ordinator 3 days after booking too. Our wedding docs do say that we may have a very slow response between November - May due to it being closed season. The reason i chose Thomson was because my brother and now wife got married in Rhodes through Thomas Cook last year and it was a trauma from start to finish. Ensure that you have the docs showing your extra luggage allowance for your dress as my sister in law spent the full holiday thinking that she wouldnt be able to get it home as Thomas Cook never provided anything to show this and had failed to put it on the computer! English side they were brill and ;let her take it however they said that the doc would need to be shown on her return flight. Once over in Greece things went a lot smoother for them though (however it was a Thomason rep that dealt with them on the day) and they had a lovely day.

Are you on Facebook? MrsBtoB and i are in a hitched group on there which is full of tips.

Hope to get to know you

    Hi All

    I'm a Zante bride - September 2012.

We did anticipate arranging the wedding ourselves with the help of the family that run the accomadation that we will be staying in but don't feel like we are getting anywhere.

We have told the family that we want to get married on the 5th September and they have said this is ok and they will speak to the registrar but are we suppose to get some official cofirmation that our wedding is booked? They haven't asked us about a time, surely they would need ths to book our wedding?

I emailed them over a week ago asking for prices for various extras and also details of the photographer/hair/make up people that they recommend as surely these will need to be secured in advance and I would really like to speak with them before hand so we know what we will be getting and feel happy with it. I haven't yet had a response to my email.

I am also finding it difficult to find someone to translate our documents into Greek as they have said this need to be done before they are sent over. I have emailed 4 or 5 people in the UK that I found through the Greek Consulate but haven't heard anything back, this is at least 3 weeks ago.

I know the Greeks are very laid back but at the minute I feel as if i have a holiday booked and not a wedding and am starting to wish that we had used a wedding planner or chosen somewhere else entirely different ?

Do you ladies have things like your photographer, hair, make-up arranged already? I may be worrying unneccesarily but we are only there 3 days before we get married and a week in total so it seems an awful lot to arrange in such a short time.

    Hi

Sorry your having so much trouble we've gone with Francis from Tsilvili Travel a Greek wedding planner and she does everything even paperwork I've got my date and time the location I've chosen my package and hair and makeup etc, I dont know what to suggest perhaps get a wedding planner just for the ceremony and legal part and organise your own reception?? I am sure Francis does thisxx

    Hi Rachel

    Thanks for your resply.

I have heard lots of people mention Francis so I will drop an email and see what she thinks - the family were very good at responding when we were first interested in booking now it seems to take them longer and longer each time we send a question (and believe me I am no bridezilla this is the first time I have sent any wedding related questions to them). Even if they have it all under control I would rather they just email me and say this is what you need to do and when.

My OH keeps telling me to be patient - he knows I am the most impatient and organised person in the world ?

I've sent them another email today asking for a response and asking them if it would be easier for them if I got a wedding planner. Think if I don't hear anything in the next week this is the route I am going to take.

All the best with your wedding x

    Jo

    Hi Stacey

Thanks for your reply - I would be really really grateful if you could share the contact details with me.

I've heard from the family and they have given me some contacts for photography, hair/make-up and flowers and I've even managed to contact some of them and get some replies so feel much more happy about things now. Just need to speak to them again and get confirmation of our wedding date and time.

    Thanks again

    Thanks Rachel,

Thought i would give you all a bit of info about us-

me and stewart have been together 7 years after meeting on a weekend away in amsterdam!! Stewart proposed in oct 2010 during a weekend away in paris. I am 33 and stewart is 31. First marriage for both of us, but i have one daughter from a previous replationship. We booked the wedding last feb through the bridal consultant (lisa). There are 30 of us going over there and the majority of us are staying at the contessina hotel. I have not got alot left to do now, its really just the h2b who needs to sort what he is wearing but am not going to stress about that. It's lovely to read everyones stories on here and very exciting that we do not have long now

    From excited bride to be

I'm 43 and my OH Lee is 40 we've been together 7 years its his first wedding my third!! that sounds terrible but all i can say is this is my last as Lee really is my soul mate we've known each other all our lives he said he always 'fancied' me but I never noticed him!!! I have four children 21/20/16 and Freddy who will soon be 2 who is Lee's only child.

Getting married abroad was Lee's idea and I must say I am pleased that we are having a beach wedding I am getting excited now we've gone all inclusive at the Planos Bay its got a waterpark etc there's 20 of us going but not all stopping at the same hotel.

We wanted beach wedding and beach bbq and thats what we've got we are also having greek dancers and disco for entertainment we've gone with Frances from Tsilvi Travel but Lisa from Bridal consultant is doing all our paperwork (think the two firms work together) well enough from me I'm sure you'll have a lovely dayxxx
