Hi there! This is my first post, as I joined today!

My fiance (that still sounds weird!) and I got engaged 2 weeks ago, and are throwing a few ideas around at the moment, starting to make plans.

We definatley want to get married abroad, and are so far planning (hopefully) to get married in Zante next year, either in June or September. We went on holiday there last year and fell in love with it, and we are going back this June. We stayed in Alykanas which is a beautiful part of the country, and we think this is where we would like to get married! The websites and brochures we have looked through mostly advertise weddings in Tsilivi and other ares of the island, which although lovely are not where I've set my heart on.

Has anyone used wedding planners based in Zante, and has anyone got any recommendations on how to organise all the little details that will make it perfect for us?

Welcome to you both! We really are a friendly bunch, and very nosy at times! Be warned! Hopefully we'll be able to share some of our wisdom and knowledge with you ?
And you can have a good nose at our plans and pictures a year before your own weddings!

Karenlisa - when I spoke to Frances at Tsilivi Travel last, she did say to me that this is their manic time of year, and might take a while to get back to people. I'm not contacting her at all now until October when they quiten down. We went out in June, and in the 2 weeks we were there she was doing something like 18 weddings! It could be the same with other companies too. They might just not have time at the moment to answer emails etc. But I would recommend her - she's lovely! And having a planner over there has helped us so much, not least by sorting out the leagl bits and translations.

Hi, Thanks for the warm welcome! I think Frances may work for the Bridal Consultants too, surely there can't be too wedding planners in Tsivili by the name of Frances? I'm loving a Forever Yours dress at the min, design 411110. What do you think? In the package I'm planning on booking we get our wedding reception in the outdoor restaurant at the hotel, we get a BBQ but I'm not sure what entertainment to book. As the will only be about 25 people there, I'm not sure about a dj, will it have the same feel with so few people? Any suggestions will be extremely welcome. Shell.x

    Hi, Mrs BtoB,

Wow 18 weddings thats alot, she must have quite alot of people working for her??

The only reason we are chasing them is to get a price as Frances has extended her deal of book by end sept 2011 and i will get these prices for 2013 and would like to compare them. Thanks for your recommendation it's nice to hear as we are putting our great day in their hands.

Where are you getting married out there?

    thanks karen

    Hi Shell

I didn't see the outdoor restaurant when we went out there, but saw a wedding on the Jetty and then at the Beach Bar and it was decorated beautifully. You can have greek muscians and dancers if you don't fancy a dj, but with everyone in a great mood you will still be up dancing with a dj.

Oooh that sounds like a good deal. Get chasing! HA!

We're getting married in Alykanas, at the Alykanas Beach Hotel. Here's a link http://www.alykanas-beach.com/en_index.php (the pictures don't do the view any justice). We're then having a short walk along the beach to a lovely restaurant called Neraida http://www.neraidarestaurant.com/ (check out some of the pictures)where we will watch the sun set over the beach, eat gorgeous food and listen to the 2 man Greek group. Bliss!

    Hi ladies,

It's now 11 days since we got home from Zante ☹️. Neither of us wanted to come home.

We had such an amazing time there and met Francis to discuss our wedding plans. She was brilliant and answered all our questions and put our minds at rest on a few things. She had a wedding and reception taking place that day at Cameo Island and the Vezal Taverna which is where we have chosen for next year and suggested we could go and see from afar. I have to say that both were amazing and we feel even more excited about everything now we've seen it for ourselves and not just from photos.

Thanks Luckylola for your suggestions on where to eat - we went for dinner at a couple of those places and they were great ?

I see there's loads more Zante brides that have joined the forum which is brilliant.

Sorry to talk about more serious stuff but I wondered whether any of you had any concerns about the financial situation that's going on in Greece at the moment? A few people have mentioned to me that if things don't improve, it could have a major impact on the cost of our wedding (i.e. costs going up) and even worse, the wedding companies could go bust! We plan to take out wedding insurance anyway but I wondered whether any of you had any thoughts or similar concerns?

We're off to the wedding fayre Saturday to meet Francis too. We are concerned about the way things are in Greece I've been looking at wedding Insurance Eccalastical seems to have the best reviews so am thinking of going with them I'm hoping that as Francis seems to be such a big company holidays/tour operator as well as weddings she will be ok. I'm going to get my price agreed with her by January i have a budget so will have to stick to it

    Hi Mica71

Are any of those nice places to eat in the resort of Laganas? Because there won't be many of us at my wedding party we were thinking of just picking a restaurant to just have a nice meal once we got there, but if anyone can give some recommendations that would be better????

Saw Francis today she answered all our questions and put our minds at rest about the situation in Greece and said that the price we agree is what we will pay no matter what happens in Greece.

bought my tiara today its a halo & co one its very blingy i just fell in love with it was £220 but i got some money off so i justified it to myself as a bargain lol!!! i sent Lee off for a coffee so i could try it and buy it lol just gotta make sure the price remains hidden forever lolx

Hi, glad you had a good holiday!

I am slightly concerned about the financial situation in Greece, but I have been assured by our wedding planner that it shouldn't effect the total amount that we pay.

    Hope that helps.

Hi We also met Francis at the Wedding Show and paid our deposit. She was really freindly as some have you have already said and also said that the current situation Geece will not affect the price, if anything could be better for us if they should go back the Drachma, lets hope they do.

HI we are getting married next year in Tsilivi and like many others have been reassured that the cost of our wedding will not go up and will remain the same no matter what the situation is in Greece next year.

I don't think Greece will ever go back t the drachma, but they will have to tighten there belts and accept the tax cut's etc they may incur if they do get bailed out.

Fingers crossed it wont be overly expensive on the resorts with restaurants and bars, and i hope it doesn't change how friendly and helpful the Greek people usually are?

    Hi Mazzab,

Sorry for the delay in replying. The restaurants I mentioned are all in Kalamaki, where we stayed this year. Kalamaki is the next resort on from Laganas, about 5-10 mins drive away.

The Vezal Taverna, where we are having our reception next year, is in Laganas and we went there for dinner one evening to see what it was like. The menu is simple but the food is delicious and very good value for money. It's was one of the nicest and cheapest places we ate while on holiday so I would recommend it. It also has a bar/lounge area and is situated on the beach.

    Hope that helps ?

    Michelle

    Hello ladies,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the financial situation in Greece. It's good to know you've had reassurance from Francis/your wedding companies that the price shouldn't be affected. I'm keeping my fingers (and toes ?) crossed.

It was sad to see some of the restaurants and bars had closed down when we were in Zante this year but I found the Greeks to be as friendly and accommodating as ever. They're such lovely people, I hope things start to improve for them!

I don't go on here for ages then post 3 messages in a row lol!

Just been looking on the Ionian Weddings website and they talk about the financial crisis in Greece under their News section. Here's the link:

    http://www.ionianweddings.co.uk/news_detail.asp?newsID=30

So as several of you have already said, they don't forsee there being any issues.

    Happy days ?

    Hi Zante Brides ?

I have been thinking, and thought that it would be nice to have all our wedding days displayed in date order. I know that some us are getting married around the same time, but not sure which bride is first! So,if you don't mind, post below the date you are getting married and I will edit the list as we go along!

    Thanks ladies. ?

What is yours/your OH's name (if you want to share)?

    How old are you?

    How old is your OH?

How long have you been together?

How long have you been engaged?

    Where are you from?

    Have you got any children?

    What made you choose Zante?

What do you do for a living?

What does your OH do for a living?

Errrm... that's probably nosy enough for now!

What is yours/your OH's name (if you want to share)? Holly and Darren

    How old are you? 25

How old is your OH? 43 (what can I say? I like a man with experience ?)

How long have you been together? Almost 5 years

How long have you been engaged? Since March, although neither of us can remember the exact date ?

    Where are you from? Suffolk

Have you got any children? Not between us, but he has 2 daughters - 14 and almost 20

What made you choose Zante? We went on holiday there in 2010 and that was that. I think we'll be going for many years to came. We also want to share how much we adore the island with family, and it's not too far to travel for a beach wedding, unlike carribean type destinations.

What do you do for a living? I'm a senior nursery nurse at a day nursery, and have just started working back in the baby room after 3 years running rooms with toddlers and 2 year olds.

What does your OH do for a living? Some kind of warehouse/packing/shipping of medical machinery (I don't really understand to be honest!)
