I've noticed 2016 wedding threads becoming more frequent recently, so I thought I'd get the list started for 2016 brides! The 2015 thread was only a couple of months later in the timeframe than this one is, so hopefully I'm not being too eager!! Let me know if I can add you to the list January...

I'm posting in here as maybe some of you other 2016 brides have felt the same as me.

When me and h2b first decided it was about time we got married, I was all excited and giddy and was telling everyone I knew. Everyone was congratulating us etc etc and it was great! Now, whenever I mention anything about the wedding, all I get told is 'well it is ages away yet' and 'what are you thinking about that for now?' It's not just friends that are saying this, but my h2b, our daughter, (who is 19 and one of the main people who was begging for us to do it), family - everyone.

They've got me to the point where I feel stupid about even thinking about anything to do with the wedding and I have stopped talking about it completely. On the rare occasion that someone does ask me about it, I find myself changing the subject very quickly just because I don't want them to think I'm going on and on about it, even though it's them that's asked me.

I totally understand that people won't be as excited about it as I am, I really do, but when I'm asking for opinions on things I like, and asking h2b about what he might like, it would be nice for at least 1 person to show just a little interest and not keep making me feel like a complete idiot for wanting to do a few little things for our wedding.

    Sorry for grumbling. x

I wory about this too, but haven't gotten far enough (no one knows other than you guys yet!) to annoy the general population yet. You can plan as much as you like! If you've been engaged for that long you must have a lot of amazing ideas to fill your special day with all the love you've felt over the years, and you just want to talk to people and let them share in your excitement.

Just talk to us if you are worried, we are all crazy-excited-bridezillas on here so we'll love to hear your ideas and share our own in return Smiley smile

I know exactly what you mean, I was looking at invitations tonight thinking about colours and quantity and I said to the OH "what do you think?" He was like "it's over a year away, plenty of time stop wasting money" it's that kind of answer that makes me just click 'buy' haha! But seriously I don't mention wedding to anyone now, not even my close work colleagues as I always feel I'm 'boring' them. I also told the OH that our deposit was due today on our chosen venue according to our contract and he replied "Why does it have to be today, what's so important about paying it so soon". I'm sorry but I will go 'ninja' on his backside if he loses our date because of his too laid back attitude!!

I received a parcel from the postie today, and OH instantly asked what they were and how much I paid, he said "Not another thing for this wedding" and "Babe it's alright buying all this stuff but where are we going to put it"

All I can say is thank god for hitched! It's a lifesaver!

Has anyone thought about buying a dress online? I'm really debating it. I want go in and try them on and purchase one from online. But it's very scary, the thought of it going wrong.

Same!! We've been offered an amazing photographer deal but I feel it's too far away to book it!! I'm so scared we'll change our mind. Lol.

Oh and on a different note found our dream venue yesterday. Gorgeous beach cafe which is stunning!! But it's an hour and a half away (when I mentioned it to friends last night they we're not impressed!!) and it's miles out of our price range!!

But the view!! OMG it was amazing!

I should stop looking BUT for an extra £4-500 I could put all of the bridal party up in the local travelodge (10 mins away) for the night before and the night of the wedding... Lol.

We so don't have this money but ho hum Smiley sad

Thanks for listening/reading, ladies.. I'm glad I'm not on my own with my grumble.

My h2b can't really complain about me wasting any money as it's me that's selling stuff on ebay to make money to buy the little things so none of it is coming out of our bank account.

I'm just so glad I registered here on hitched so I can log on and have my wedding fix with everyone on here that understands and feels as excited and giddy about things as I do and without getting labelled as being stupid for being so..

    Thank you xx

I think you are doing the right thing by planning early. I have bookings for 2016 already. The benefit for you is that if you book early then you get this years price guaranteed for 2016 and you get the supplier you want as all the best ones get booked early.

    Happy planning.

Exatly. Once you have the major things booked (venue, TOG etc) you can take your time with all the little details. Plus you only have to pay the deposit now and pay the rest off as you go. There's nothing wrong with being organised.

I know it's tricky trying to talk to people about a wedding that's taking place in 2016, but as Andy said, you will be surpirsed how far in advance suppliers get booked up.

But, we are all here if you want to talk about it, we don't mind at all ?

I feel the same! I find myself resisting talking about the wedding incase I bore people, but at the same time that's all I want to talk about all of the time. It has got easier recently as I've had a lot on with work and issues with my mum's health, but I still come on hitched pretty much every day for a browse...shame on me.

I have just posted this in a separate thread but what do all of you 2016 brides think about Humanist ceremonies? They could be legal in England and Wales by the end of this year, so my Humanist celebrant friend tells me.

I'm struggling to decide between a humanist & civil ceremony (we're Scotland so they're already legal). Another benefit of having so long to decide lol can't make up my mind! Got a few weddings this year so going to see how I like them and then decide.

The little things I've been purchasing have all come out of my own wages, not out of our wedding bank account. That's being saved to pay photographers and venue and such like. However He can't moan anyway I just stuck over £400 in the pot the other day thanks to my nan (RIP x).

Good Morning fellow 2016 brides after some advice/opinions....

I am getting married in an area not local to me ( 3 1/2 hours/190 miles away - its perfect though Smiley laugh ) so my question is....what would you guys do about having hair & make-up done on the day? Would you go down for a day and have a hair/makeup trial in one day? There are not many options of people local to offer hair/makeup so would have to hope it works out on the trail :/

    What are you ladies thoughts?

Congratulations kelw and welcome! You already have a date twin Smiley smile

MrsBaker2016 - let us know how you get on and when you've chosen a date, so I can add you Smiley smile

Beki333 - I would probably go down and try to get trials on the same day, or maybe make a weekend of going to visit and you could go to see your venue at the same time.

I have a similar predicament as I am not marrying where we live. Do you know anyone who lives in the area you are marrying in who could recommend someone so it's not as much of a gamble? Or could you ask your venue if they have a recommended stylist? I agree with Laurafish that you could combine the hair trial with other appointments to make the trip seem more worthwhile e.g. could you see a photographer/someone about the cake in the same day?

It's been on the quiet side in here recently ?. Hope everyone is ok and their planning is coming on. Well, after a wobble over our TOG I sent the contract off today and will pay the deposit on pay day. That's all the major things sorted, now just have to keep our fingers crossed we can get the registrar for the day we want, lol. Anyone else got any updates?

An update to our planning for Jan 16th

Venues deposit has now been paid and received two emails: one from the DJ introducing himself and requesting music list and our first dance song. We also could meet him face to face (I know there was a topic on that somewhere) and one from the reservations manager who has booked the four poster bed bridal suite for us and gave us our 'code' for guests to hire rooms.

We've also booked the church, and will have to at some point start attending once a month for 6 months, which the OH isn't looking forward to.

Our save the dates are all made and slotted in envelopes, our guest list needs finalising. We're currently choosing our colours and card bits for our invitations, and working out a draft design, asked for some swatch colours and a printer tester pack so I'm waiting on that. Picked up a few more small detail items Saturday, and then purchased our favour jars (50 smart price paste jars) & washed & de-labelled them Sunday. I took the glue off them yesterday (they need to be machine dish-washed again before use). A couple of weekends ago we went to the shop of the company who's dressing our venue, and chose our chair sashes and got prices for all the extras.

Still nothing new with me either for now, still concentrating on the move - one month tomorrow!

That being said, we were supposed to go and see the 'new' reception venue last weekend but it wasn't ready yet - when we saw it a couple of months ago it was about to undergo some renovations. They haven't been quite finished yet so I think we're going in June time.

If I'm honest I have no desire to do anything venue wise right now Smiley sad Feeling really stuck. Our church is in the town I've lived in all my life and there are no venues we like in the area (that we can agree on, anyway...). We've resorted to looking at the Cambridge area (we're in Cambridgeshire) which means the reception venue is an hour away from the church. I've always been against the idea, but my OH and his parents think it's totally fine, they think nothing of travelling an hour just to get to a restaurant for dinner. I was starting to come around to the idea and accept that there aren't really any other choices, but then I mentioned it to a cousin and she said "ohh, we have to travel?! is there accommodation?" when I said not on site but 10/15 minutes away she pulled a face and said "that's not good". So now I just feel really down about it all. I know lots of people are going to be making similar comments, either to my face or not, and I haven't got a clue what my other options are. What would you guys do? Any help would be really appreciated, as you can see from my ramble it's been playing on my mind!

Big hugs. I had similar problems - in the end we've found a venue closer to the church (H2B and Mum adored it, I did really like it but not as much as them, but 'settled' on it due to its proximity to the church!) I was looking at 'up to an hour away' venues but had similar comments. I think at the end of the day, those that really matter and are really important will find a way to get there, as it's your day. We had planned provisions for grandparents etc that obviously were important but we knew would struggle (as didn't drive/didn't like driving unfamiliar routes) but were quite happy to leave everyone else to fend for themselves. I've been to weddings and travelled over an hour from church to venue. Yes its a bit inconvenient, but it wasn't my day and that was the venue they liked. I dont see why a bride and groom should have to settle on a venue they dont like just to satisfy others. Is your cousin married/did she have a church wedding? It may be she just doesn't understand. I know before I got engaged that it would be a given that I'd find my dream venue within spitting distance of the church - in reality once you factor in budgets and numbers quite often thats just not possible.

Wait and have a look at the new venue once its finished, and see how you feel. If it really blows you away the distance will be worth it.

I'm feeling really down about the whole wedding thing at the minute too. It just feels so far away, I really want to start organising more but I've not got enough saved. I'm working in a job I hate, with a stupid commute, can't find any other jobs, still not earning enough to put any money away for wedding, starving hungry thanks to my pre-wedding dress shopping diet, and I've got an exam in 2 weeks that I just can't get the revision material to stick for Smiley sad

Sorry - having a woe is me day! Once this exam is out the way I'm hoping I'll perk up (and again once I pass the 2 year mark!) Off to try and book some appts with photographers for consultations after exams are over to cheer myself up!!
