Afternoon tea or medieval banquet? Venue flash!

2 June, 2011 at 19:32 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hello lovely hitchers!

I went to see my venue again today and my mum came with us, she was seeing it for the first time and as soon as she saw it she said she thinks it would be perfect for a medieval theme/ bbq style reception... We were originally planning an afternoon tea style reception but now i'm not sure! .... Sooooo i need some help! Here are some pics of the venue, opinions of which theme you think goes better please!

Thanks in advance!

I dont think afternoon tea would work at all if I am honest.

However- apart from what your mum thinks- what do you want?

Definitely a medieval banquet/hog roast BBQ type affair. A big knees up too with lots of loud live music :-D

    It looks amazing!!!

Before you decide you obviously need to try them on but I really think you'll feel more part of the atmosphere of the place if you go the whole hog and have a medieval style of dress :-)

You could go somewhere in the middle and still have an ivory gown but have one that has a visible style corset? Sort of medieval but still white/ivory? These are just from Google images:

    I love this and it's still quite flowy and chiffony like you already wanted and this would look fine with a normal suit IMO;

ETA except for the covered hands LOL!!! ;-)

I agree you don't need to go the whole hog and go crazy with everything being medieval but I think a little nod to the venue with styling on the dress won't be too OTT, I'm assuming H2B and bridesmaids will still be dressed as already planned :-)

I like the idea of a medieval STYLE banquet, but IMO turning it into a medieval experience and dressing in what might look like fancy dress is a step too far! I think you could wear a dress which didn't obviously feature medieval styling and still look amazing and not out of place...I would say that you could have a banquet and a hog roast without having to theme the whole wedding around this - although obviously, if this is what you want go for it, I just don't like any sort of theme - even a colour scheme is a bit much for me!

The venue is beautiful, by the way.

I reckon a kilt would work fine with a medieval type dress - I was originally looking at getting a celtic wedding dress before I settled on something more traditional.

To answer the OP I could see your venue also working for a 'Darling Buds of May' type afternoon tea IYKWIM?

I just typed 'Medieval style wedding dresses' into Google images. But I'm afraid I've just gone back to see if I could find out who they're by and they're both on one of those annoying websites that has loads of pictures of dresses but doesn't say where they're from!

For me as soon as I saw that place it would have to be medieval - fantastic place and what a great atmosphere you can get in there I bet.

Not so sure of having the whole wedding themed around it being medieval it could go overboard and may take away from the wedding celebrations.

Love the hog roast idea, that would be brilliant.

the second dress is by two scottish designers called lindsayfleming aka grace lindsay and julie fleming the dress is called 'sabina'....theyre based in abington, lanarkshire and i have had my eye on their 'iona' dress for many many years.....www.lindsayfleming.com

they offer a mail order service for brides who cant go for fittings...theyre very pricey average dress is around £1700 but i think theyre worth it......i had an appt to see them( im not far from their studio) but since my fiance and i are eloping i cant justify spending that amount on my dress and will look for a cheaper version.

I've seen this dress, would this be something you are looking for?

    http://www.thedarkangel.co.uk/catalogue3.php?pic=3&p=406

This website has some lovely dresses, if you scroll down the far left side you click on one dress at a time and it opens it up onto the page all the different shots they've taken of them.
