Alternatives to wedding cakes?

Jemma, 21 February, 2022 at 16:55 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi everyone!

My partner and I really aren't fussed on a wedding cake, we're not the biggest fans of cake and don't really feel its worth the money!

Do you have any ideas that we could have instead? As cheese lovers we don't mind the idea of a Cheese Cake with some crackers but was just wondering if anybody had any other ideas we could do instead?

Thanks Smiley smile

I've been to a wedding that had a profiterole tower. And another one had individual cakes with the couples name & date on a rice paper decal on top.

How about a doughnut board. You could even have your names as the board backing and cover it with doughnuts.

Definitely love a cheese cake - my sister had one and honestly, I still remember it fondly so many years later. Nicest part of the evening!

What's your favourite sweet treat or dessert? Use a tiered cake stand and make a tower of whatever it might be - cupcakes, mars bars, crackers, anything!

My mum is famous among my friends for her brownies, so she's making us a brownie tower in lieu of a wedding cake - we'll like it better and it's a nice personal touch that a good chunk of the guests will recognise as such Smiley smile

We are having a brownie stack. We are only having a small wedding so we are having enough so that we don’t need to cut them. The guests can just help themselves. To keep a little bit of tradition, we are having a small cake on top to cut. This will be GF to cater for a few that are GF x

Definatly go for a cheese cake if that is what you want. I dont eat cake so we are doing cheese and then using it as part of our evening buffett. They are not cheap, if your venue allows external food bought in you can go to Costco and get big wheels of cheese and make it yourself or order individual parts online which is way cheaper than having it made up by a bespoke company

Best to also check with your venue on any food that you bring in yourself because some will not allow it, especially if they are to be cutting and serving it as that then could mean that they can be potentially liable for any illness etc afterwards.

It doesn't work like that for a cake from a professional company as its they that will have all the insurance and relevant safety certificates.

    Something like that anyway.

Go for a cheese cake if that’s more your thing - my cousin did that, and had it still to serve the next day (and long after that!!).

If you’re really not into cake, and none of the options are your thing either, there’s no law saying you have do something like that. They can be expensive and you could spend that money elsewhere on something more important to you. I went to a wedding recently and only days later realised they didn’t have a cake (or any alternative). I’m not a cake person so it didn’t bother me, I mentioned it to some other guests and honestly, till I mentioned it, most of them hadn’t noticed either!
We’re not going to bother with cake, or any alternative, as it’s not our thing, and also our wedding is late, guests won’t be eating till nearly 9pm, so I can’t imagine anyone will be bothered about having even more cake (desert included in the meal). But if you’re eating earlier then it’s possible people will get peckish come night time
