Am I odd, lol? Hen party opinions

I was reading another post about hen parties, and it just struck me that I must be a little odd, lol. There were so many lovely brides saying they are going on big nights out, big drinking weekends, etc, and all my married friends had girl's weekends full of pure drink and penis-paraphernalia, lol-...

I was reading another post about hen parties, and it just struck me that I must be a little odd, lol. There were so many lovely brides saying they are going on big nights out, big drinking weekends, etc, and all my married friends had girl's weekends full of pure drink and penis-paraphernalia, lol- I know it's bad for a 26 year old, but I can't think of anything worse for me! Don't get me wrong, I definitly am not looking down on anyone who have that for their hen night, I think it's great for you if that's what you enjoy. And I love a good night out, but my SIL keeps saying she wants to plan me a surprise hen night with all the tacky trimmings, and the idea terrifies me! Am I strange? I think I must be a bit of a prude as all the hen party willy stuff does make me shudder, lol. I would really just want a weekend at a gorgeous spa hotel with a few friends, but does that make me boring? Smiley sad

I guess I just wanted to know if there were any hitchers who share my opinion, so I don't feel so boring!

No, that doesn't make you boring. I wouldn't want that either to be honest. I'd prefer to do some activity stuff and a meal. My sister is planning it next year, but she knows I don't drink much as I am hangover-phobic.

    HI,

Agree with you Puddingbex. My hen do is going to be a long weekend in Lanzarote in a private villa with swimming pool for me and 6 of my closest buddies.

There will be a couple of nights out but it's more about spending time chilling out and just enjoying ourselves. Luckily there are no divas in this group.

Hey, I completely understand.... My bridesmaids arranged a 4 night trip to Ibiza (16 of us including my mum and mother inlaw). All I knew was that we were going to Ibiza. I was dreading it and was really nervous but i can honestly say that i had the time of my life and i am so glad that i just went with it didn't try and change anything. It was amazing, it was quite boozy but i just had a brilliant time with all my girls being totally stupid and acting like idiots probably.

I went glamping to a yurt in Wales. We had cupcakes and pimms and cocktails, went to the beach and had wedding themed sandcastle contests, played leapfrog on the beach, went semi skinny dipping in the sea. In the yurt we played hen do games in between regular board games. No willys. I loved it.

Not odd at all. The thought of willies, veils, L plates fill me with dread too. First time round I didn't have a hen party at all.

This time round, luckily I work for a company who organise vintage hen parties (well, I do it, I'm the events manager!) So I'll be organising my own. Afternoon tea, a dance class (probably burlesque or jive) full vintage hair and make up styling (think marilyn monroe, audrey hepburn, veronica lake) maybe a fascinator making class and then into to town for a nice meal and a few drinks. Friends can pick and choose which bits they want to join in/can afford to do and if a stripper appears I will be out of there!

Everyone is different and at the end of the day, its your hen party/wedding and you should do whatever you want to do! Good luck x

I've been on both types of hen do, and both are great in their own right. We had a rather subdued one in Centre Parcs, but had great fun doing all the activities and a murder mystery in one of the villas one night. Everyone got to dress up, but it wasn't to show off in public. We also watched the B2B's favourite film snuggled up on the sofas in our PJs one afternoon, so it was lovely. We were all give tasks to do during our stay there too, which we presented to the bride on the final evening (e.g. ask 10 strangers what they believe the key to a successful marriage is etc).

Mine will probably be a penis-filled weekend, I have to say, but I find all that amusing!

    This is very true!

My hen weekend was last weekend, we went to segway in the day and then glamping for a night. There were just 6 girls which was nice. My bridesmaid was under strict instructions not to do any tackiness as it just isn't me and I just wanted to relax with my friends. She did bring along willy straws which a couple of my friends used, but theyre not really my cup of tea so I passed!

It's about you, remember that, and if your bridesmaid or friends understand you then they will respect your wishes.

I'm the same on the hen do front. I don't drink so the idea of going out drinking bores me. I went out for a meal with three friends and it was really perfect. We talked non stop and it was lovely to be out an being able to speak for loud music.

For me, my hen was perfect but it's each to their own, everyone likes something different.

    No plastic willies here, thanks!

I'm having a long weekend at a spa hotel in Falmouth with a few close friends - there will be walks on the coast, massages, real ale, gorgeous food, fizz, reading and general relaxing.

I'm inviting other friends, MIL, cousins, etc to join us for lunch on one of the days, so I don't have to also have a squealing pink night out to appease what they might expect.

I would find the whole tackiness awful and really cringey! Unfortunately, I have my 21 year old sister planning my hen party - think she might need some assistance haha.

I don't tend to comment on many posts but I saw this and instantly felt relieved!

I am 22 and typically everyone thinks that at that age I should be out every night partying etc etc... I'm not shy or boring (I don't think lol) but clubs are the last place I want to go. I'm more of a pub girly!

So basically when it comes down to my hen night I plan to make a day of it instead and chill out... spa day, pampering session, relaxing and all that jazz.

On the other hand I know the best man plans to take the other half to Amsterdam or somewhere ridiculous and of course just to annoy me my Dad is going along with all the plans and can't wait! MEN!

    I think I've said enough

I threw myself my own hen party ?

That way I was in control and knew exactly what was going on. The girls bought me a surprise Butler in the Buff, who turned out to be a huge help, but I'm so glad I did what I did.

I can't think of anything worse than being in a gaggle of girls wearing deelyboppers and L-plates running round town in veils and stockings...

I'd never have that sort of night out normally, so why start now?!

I think I'm unusual that I'd be quite happy not to have a hen night at all. However, to please the in-laws and my sisters, I fear I might have to. I'm thinking having afternoon tea at my house, everyone brings cake and we chat about wedding ideas...i'm sure it sounds *** to most people but it's much preferable to me...
