BrogstarBride, 30 September, 2012 at 15:01 Posted on Planning 0 24

Ok totally not wedding related but thought this might be interesting! Im addicted to the Trilogy right now!

Likey or No likey?

Do you think hes a nice person and loves Ana? (In his own funny way lol)

What is everyones visual image of Mr Grey? (Like who do you have in your mind he looks like?)

Heard so many different responses from friends im interested to know what you think!

I've read them all and initially thought No Likey but ended up Likey-very-muchly.

He's not 'nice' in a conventional way, but I'd say his background has made him who he is. As for whether he loves her, well, as I've read to the end, I won't tell you what I think.

Although I liked it a lot, I could see it wasn't the best literary experience I was going to have, and part of that was I couldn't really visualise the characters, even now. Usually I have very clear pictures in my head but I found that hard. Apart from the sex scenes, I mean, they were vivid enough...

    Haven't read, won't read.

I usually reserve judgement on books until I've read them, but I've read enough reviews to know I wouldn't like them.

Terrible book. Definitely a no-likey from me.

He might "love" Ana in his own very odd way, but he behaves appallingly to her, emotionally abuses her and manipulates her for his own good and then blames her for getting upset. I wouldn't stand for his crap for a second, and I'm not really convinced about the whole "healing" thing she supposedly does, because she doesn't do anything at all, and he's still a manipulative power-freak right at the end.

On the other hand, she is whiny and too stupid and irritating to live.

As for what he looks like, in my head he is like this guy

who plays a rich arrogant arsehole called Christian in the Devil Wears Prada.

I wouldn't bother! I caved in to see what all the fuss was about and thought it was terrible- really unbelievable and badly written! Finished the first one as don't like leaving a book unfinished and hoped it would get better..... it didn't!

Snap!! First book is on the shelf - I actually bought it for some escapist honeymoon reading, but read other books and did other things. It's still sitting there, but I think I'll just think it's very contrived and gimmicky. I usually avoid at all costs anything hyped as much as this.

I'm another that caved in a bought them to see what all the fuss was about !

I read them all within a week but I only continued because I was hoping on it improving and thought they would add a bit of depth to the characters - neither happened unfortunately....infact I'd say the story line became more "vanilla" and boring the more I read and as for what was reported to be "mummy porn" I never found any at all and it was just very repetitive.

All that hype only lead to disappointment.

I will say though, I think it would have been more interesting if they had written some of it from Mr Grey's perspective.

    I've heard this is happening...

Every single person I know in RL has loved them. Maybe not rated them as a masterpiece, but appreciated them for what they are.

And those RL people range from a Biomedical Scientist to a Uni Student. A wide range of people is what I'm trying to say.

I bought them due to the hype but got bored about a third into the last one.

I am a twilight fan and found it a crap sadistic copy of twilight! You can really tell where she has copied the characters.

Alright for a holiday read but don;t expect a literary masterpiece!

As for Mr Grey, I think he is an arrogant selfish immature idiot!

    Rant over Smiley smile

I swore I'd never read them, but caved in on honeymoon. Ended up using them to light the bbq as we ran out of fire lighters! He is a horrible horrible man. He might think he loves her but how he treats her in the 3rd book is inexcusable.

I found the storyline very boring, to be honest there wasn't really a story! After a while the sex got too repetitive and I ended up skipping it. I didn't think the sex was as kinky as it was hyped up to be. Both of the characters were completely unrealistic, there was no way to relate to either. I pictured Christian to look Ryan Gosling, yum!

Only worth a read so that you can talk about it with your mates!

I gave in and read the first one on holiday, and I can honestly say I found it extremely boring! The "rude" scenes are very samey and boring, and I really found the girl in it annoying. for me, it just didnt get going. I started the second one but gave up as I just couldnt bring myself to read anymore.

I read an extract that was posted on OT. It was dire. Badly written, like "What I did on my holidays", by Jimmy, aged 8.

Again i caved in as everyone was reading them so wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Very ropey storey line about a girl going from a virgin to nympho is a matter of weeks with a controlling psychotic bloke who likes anal fisting and genital clamps. Poorly written but read all three to get some closure. The author clearly has done minimal or no research into BDSM and child phycology. Would not read again. Bought the first one which has now been donated to Sue Ryder (lucky old ladies) and borrowed 2 & 3 as couldn’t justify spending my hard earned cash on trash! Sorry if im too blunt.

Anything by Nora Roberts is guaranteed to be good. Right now I'm reading His Every Desire by Emma Rose and it's worth a read as well (though it is a bit...descriptive like fifty shades of grey).

I have been given all 3 and am half way through the second. I do like a bit of easy read trash and normally start a book and can't put it down. This is a 'when I remember it' book. I will read all 3 but had I paid for the 1st, I wouldn't be buying the other 2.

Like most people on here I bought it ages ago because I was intrigued but didn't get around to reading it until a few weeks ago because the more hype it got about it being 'mummy porn' the less interested I got. Anyway perhaps it was because my expectations had been completely lowered, who knows! but when I eventually decided to read it was surprisingly hooked. I found it an interesting read. the sex scenes held little interest tbh but the relationship between the 2 of them and the way in which he managed to manipulate her despite her own reservations put me in mind of domestic abuse / bad relationships which I have witnessed over the years, so made me think the book had hidden depths and that it wasn't about S&M at all but actually about domestic abuse and obsessive behaviour. Admittedly I've only read the first book so far so could be completely wrong about this and perhaps that wasn't the authors intentions at all. Anyway as a result of my perceptions I do not like Christian at all, do not think he sounds sexy just a manipulating, coward who I would stay well clear of. I don't believe he loves her, not in a pure sense of the word but he is obsessed with her imo. And this is how I picture him, anyone see american psycho Smiley winking http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRRtObydF6owEfkAKQNxcDgkhyGEd5Ai-Yzesa8zXWookjn5eiA
