Am I pestering my venue?

jubileebride, 8 August, 2011 at 13:36 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hello

I dont post on here much but visit the site everyday! Anyway I need a little bit of advice, I have my wedding booked for June next year just under ten months away. I still do not have the correct prices for the venue.

I have 2011's prices however we have been told they will change for 2012, when we booked in October last year we were told we would have the prices earlier this year. I have now rang the venue 4 times and they still do not have the prices. However the last time I rang they said roughly 5%, I am now starting to get annoyed. Am I being silly getting annoyed or would you all be?

Thanks

x

This sounds like my venue!! Although I have been told that I should get the prices through within the next couple of weeks. I would have thought that they would be getting this organised soon, there must be plenty 2012 brides wanting to know how much to budget for!!

The first mistake was booking without knowing the prices unfortunately. I booked 2 years in advance for a set sum, which I have in writing from the venue. They should have given you the prices when booking, regardless of how far in advance.

How are you meant to budget when they won't tell you how much it's going to cost? I would be pestering regularly now as you can't start making plans for everything until you know how much the biggest expense eg the venue & wedding breakfast are going to cost.

I know I agree! However the venue I want do not do that, and they were booked for every saturday in the summer for 2012 back in October so did not want to risk losing the day I wanted.

Do you think its worth ringing again, I dont want to cause a fuss but we need to know what we are paying!

I feel like ringing and saying with now only ten months to go and receiving no revised prices, I will be paying 2011 prices.

    Thanks x

I know! We have added 5% on as they said it should not increase any more that this, however it is annoying when we booked October last year. x

I haven't got my venue's price list for 2012 yet, and I'm not sure when we'll get them...

My wedding is August 2012 and we were given the 2012 prices when we booked. No way would I have booked without knowing how much it was going to cost me!

I don't think you are pestering at all. If they can take bookings that far ahead, they should have prices for that far ahead.

We booked our venue in November 2009, with confirmed package prices for March 2011... they also had package prices for 2012 then.

The only price that changed was the rooms, which went down.

I know it probably seems stupid we did, we asked and went away and said we cant book until we know but they didnt budge! And like I said above I wanted the venue, the max they can put it up is 5% so we worked on this. However it would be nice to know now at this stage so we can cut back if needed etc...

Thanks for all your replys, think I will ring them again haha xxx

I think I'd be a bit sneaky here. I'd phone the venue pretending to be a prospective bride who wants to book for next year and ask the prices that way. They are more likely to give you the info then. You've already booked, they've got you hooked, but a prospective new client might get more attention.

I think I must be really naive, but we have the 2012 room hire price because the venue only had the 2010 price list and said it wouldn't go up by more than 5% by 2012 (it transpired that there wasn't an increase this year). We just accepted this as we thought it was the norm. We budgetted for an estimated cost and will find out how much when we have 'proper' rough numbers at the beginning of the year.

But then I got told off by my FIL2B for paying a 50% deposit to a supplier and not quibbling that either...

NORMALLY(!) venues only charge you what the current price is at the time of booking. So, if you book 2 years in advance you benefit from not paying 2 inflationary increases by the time your wedding comes around! I would argue that because if you book a venue that is subject to price changes you can't really commit can you? My venues have only charged us what the prices where when we booked and the prices have since increased.
