Annoying things OH has done...

pandorasbox, 4 April, 2012 at 16:17 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 79

Last week I got bitten by midges or something horrid due to all the hot weather. I am very allergic to insect bites so they have swollen up and got worse, which I knew they would as I suffer with it every summer but usually only abroad. Had my usual anti-allergy pills, creams etc with no better results and can't get in to see a doc til next week, so have just been putting up with it feeling a bit itchy and miserable. Had a little bit of sympathy off the bloke, but generally just not said anything.

OH didn't do his houseworkly jobs last week til I made him after I told him I thought the lack of hoovering was not helping if we had dust mites or whatever, so eventually he cleaned our carpet and I have scrubbed the place top to bottom, changed bedding, hoovered mattresses, sanitised everywhere (including the cats in case it was fleas or something they had brought in from the garden). Asked OH to buy me more tablets which he forgot to do of course.

Lo and behold this morning he discovered, with an amusing look of fear and horror, a tiny little itchy bump on his leg and now it's all 'we must deal with this', 'something needs to be done' and rushing off to the chemist to buy a million antidotes blah blah blah. Bloody men! Mine are like huge red scabby pancakes on my leg (most attractive) and he doesn't bat an eyelid, but no when his precious skin has a small dot on it, it's the end of the world.

I can't be the only one. What irritating things have your OHs done?

His general lack of sense of urgency frequently has me tearing my hair out. If I'm not well and have to ask him to help out around the house, I know he'll do it without complaining but it's a matter of when. I can say to him "ooh, there's a load of laundry in the machine that needs to be put on the airer. Could you please take it out and carry it upstairs for me?", to which he'll reply "yeah, yeah" and then start reading something on the news, or playing Scrabble on his phone, or pick up his guitar and start tinkering with it. I have to be VERY specific about him doing things in a certain time frame. BUT you can bet that when left to his own devices, he'll leave everything 'til the last minute and then get in a major panic and flap all over the place trying to get whatever it is done in time.

I hope your bites heal up soon!!

I had a horrid cold recently, sent him out to get me stuff all fine!

I spent 2 days on the sofa so unwell and no sleep, He then came home from work telling me he was so unwell, he'd sneezed once, and coughed once. I'd had a high temp constant coughing and sneezing and nose running! I was so mad I yelled at him. the then took the last of my cold and flu capsules :-(

My H asked me what I'd like to do for a holiday in May this year. My reply was that what I would REALLY like would be for him to sort it all out (I usually do this and have already sorted out (ie booked and paid deposit on our week in Cornwall. I arranged our honeymoon last year)

He agreed. Has he done anything at all about it? No. When gently questioned he said "maybe we could have two weeks in Cornwall?" Argh - that is SO not the point.

    Luckily I still love him.

This. I'd love H to take control of something in our lives. I've booked 2 holidays for us this year and paid the deposits etc.

He doesn't remember to do ANYTHING in the house until i remind him, usually with a rather irritated "I suppose i'll be doing that, seeing as you STILL haven't bothered"

He always waits til i'm nearly finished doing something before asking if there is anything he can do....anything he can do? heard of something called initiative? why don't you take it once in a while and do things BEFORE i get to them.

I'm not a clean freak, i do wait to see if he has any intention of cleaning before i cave and have to do it.

My OH is generally good, but he stills seems to struggle with getting his dirty clothes into the actual washing machine. He seems to think that there are washing fairies that move it from oon top of the worksurface into the machine!

I have asked him to use his initiative, but I think it's a male thing and instead he asks me to give him jobs as he doesn't always see what needs to be done.

I genuinely think that Ha nd I have different standards. I clean my house every weekend. Reasonable, you would think. He says "it's immaculate, just leave it", and doesn't see that kitchens and bathrooms in particular need to be done for hygiene reasons and the cat hair needs hoovering up!

I wonder if most men have a different sort of cleanliness radar?

This morning OH has gone to work with out his phone which isn't usually an issue except he's working an indefinite shift so I've no idea when he'll be back, meant to be going out for a meal with friends and then drinks after with a different group but I can't arrange anything or let them know. He's also taken my keys aswell as his so I can't go out today to get food in if he's back too late.

Love him to bits but he's a dopey one!!

He got cross with me last night for keeping him awake by coughing too much - I've been ill with a virus the past week. No sympathy.

I am super lucky with my OH in terms of housework as he does the bathroom and hoovering every weekend as well as doing equal amounts of food shopping, cooking, washing up, laundry etc. I have zero complaints in that department.

HOWEVER, what does drive me NUTS is his general faffing when it comes to decision making or biggish purchases. He has to do an infinite amount of research, develop a spreadsheet, compare on different sites etc and I kid you not...it takes ruddy hours. Drives me crazy as I'm much more spontaneous. I've learnt to go off and do something different altogether as he NEEDS to do this otherwise he becomes irate at being harassed. Last night he wanted to send an email to his mates about the stag do and it took 1.5 hours. I'm not exaggerating!!!

    Oof. Bad week?

I forgave my OH for being so annoying as he came home, slathered my bites in cream and then took me out for dinner to celebrate our 4 year anniversary. We continue our celebrations by eating mini eggs and watching The Apprentice. Rock n roll!

OH is my PA! He is the one who does all the organising when it comes to holiday booking then I arrange the packing. We have seperate jobs at home too. He does laundry and hoovering and I do cooking and washing up. The rest is split too.

He does numbers (money) and I do letters (research, writing to people, phone calls) for any home related issues like insurance etc.

He does annoy me on the following points though - smelling the bathroom out and never opening a window, moaning when the heating is on, being precious about his car.

The main thing is that he holds me responsible if he forgets his wallet/mobile as I either should have put them in my bag or reminded him to pick them up. We were due to see his Mum the day after Mother's Day & I left his card & a pen next to his car keys, ready for him to fill out & told him the day before that it was there to do. On the day he forgot it & told me I should have reminded him in the morning ?

Absolutely this 200%! So for example we are always late for things because H will decide to have a shower 5 mins before we are due to leave.... WHY? He only has himself to get ready, I have myself the dog and all the cleanning, YET somehow he is never ready on time! Grrr gets me in a rage thinking about it!

WHY DO THEY DO THIS?! ?

The current annoyance for me is that there are 4 (yes, four) pairs of OH's shoes/trainers scattered arounf the living room floor. And we're not talking normal shoes here, they are size 10 boats - H&S anyone? ?

Try size 13s! The minute he leaves 2 pairs that's about half our living room covered in shoes ?

See I think that's OK actually - at least they are out of the way and you attempt to be dicreet! OH likes to leave his giant barges ooh next to the living room door, next to the front door, behind the bathroom door so when I open it, it rebounds spectacularly into my face...

Mine keeps fiddling with his wedding ring. Last night we were watching TV and he was playing with it and you guessed it... it pinged off his finger and we lost it. Half-a-bloody-hour we were searching for it, moved the sofa out, moved the mini filing cabinet, searched inside bags. We even pulled the carpet up a little bit at the edges to see if it had fallen down in there.

Just as we were giving up I saw it in the middle of the floor. No idea how we'd not managed to see it before... I think it must have rolled there after we'd moved everything out. He got in SUCH a grump about it (not with me, with himself). Silly man!!!

Talking of shoes, I have a shoe rack in the hall way and H in his infinite wisdom will leave his shoes to the side of it! Why??? There is clearly room and would only need a movement of half an inch to put them in the right place ggggrrrr. Small thing I know but it drives me bonkers!

MrMini will open the bathroom cupboard to retrieve whatever he needs, use it, put it back- AND THEN WALK AWAY LEAVING THE DOOR OPEN!

How much effort would it really take to close it? Really?

H is wonderful at doing the dishes and putting them away... in the wrong places. It's the cutlery that drives me mad the most though, he just chucks the whole lot in the drawer so there's just a big heap of it instead of sorted into types - we have an organiser thingy so why not use it?

He's also another one who never cleans the toilet, and he's recently developed a habit of leaving the seat down when he pees and not cleaning up after himself IYSWIM - I'm having to nag him about it which I hate!

My H would say all lovely things incase I leave him again...

My H used to irritate me daily for one thing or another, but he has vastly improved since I moved back home. BUT, it has only been 5/6 days ?
