Any tips for invitations?

BlurpImpala, 4 April, 2008 at 22:45 Posted on Planning 0 7

I am planning to make my own, and I need about 100 so I don't want to do anything too fiddly. I was thinking pearlescent card with squares of patterned paper tastefully stuck on (looks good in my head honest) but h2b has specified they can't look "like a bit of paper stuck onto card". Does anyone have any ideas/tips on what to do and where to get the supplies from?

There's a fair few of us making our own. Even though you want to make them yourself, it's still worth looking at the wedding staionery websites to help you make up your mind what you like, don't like what is a must have and what is a hate it!

If you want inspiration as well as supplies then Hobbycraft is worth a trek, even if it's not particularly near. You'll spend hours there!

I bought some of my supplies from here
http://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk and was very pleased. The cookshop Lakeland is a good place too, thoughhttps://www.lakeland.co.uk/

    Templates worth a look herehttp://www.mandalaybride.co.uk/self_assemble_wedding_stationery.htm

Don't forget to start with what envelope size you want. No use slaving over a card if you can't send the blummin' thing!

    Good luck!

What Mel said about suppliers - PDA are great, and you may well find you can get pre folded pearlescent cards and matching envelopes on there too! If you can't its worth giving they a call! Hobbycraft it also wonderful! If you are looking for anything specific its always asking on here, as someone has normally seen them on their travels!!

I made my own and they really were very easy to make. I got some recycled rose petal card and envelopes and then stuck a piece of card with a printed 'wedding invitation' design on it onto the card. Also had an inlet held with ribbon (sounds complex but worked with hole punch).

I'm making my sisters - we got everything from www.kozowedding.com - I'm not sure if you can order online (they're local to us) but they are very helpful.

They do the foil-printing and card scoring if needed too - and very reasonable.

Hey, I made my own with the help of my big sis! I got ideas from Scrapbooking websites, my supplies all came from www.rebeccasscrapbookingstash.co.uk the lady really helps match the exact colour scheme of your wedding.

I used to be a demonstrator at Hobbycraft and used to demonstrate wedding crafts including invitations.
One thing I would say if you're making 100 is to buy a small amount of material for your chosen design and time yourself making one or two. If it takes you hours, you'll know that you need to simplify your design.
You can also buy card-toppers that you just stick onto your blank cards. I saw some from Papermania at a garden centre the other day - they were all wedding designs - different designs but on the same colour scheme. And they were really quite reasonable.

Thanks for all the tips. V useful.

Dragged H2B round hobbycraft yesterday, he seemed a bit keener on the making invitations idea when he saw the type of thing you can do.

I made all ours for under £50 for 60 invitations, place cards & thank you cards, 12 menus, 30 save the date magnets & a table plan.
I used www.madaboutcards.com but make sure you choose what you want and order all in one go to save on postage.
My design was a white A6 card with a square of paper with "Wedding" written in light grey - printed off PC - layered with square of silver vellum with a red paper rose stuck diagonally on top and silver peel-off stickers of writing e.g. Wedding Invitation, Evening Invitation, Thank You and the top and linked wedding rings at the bottom.
I then used a template for the inside wording, again printing it off the PC.
Tip: but your envelopes at Asda or Tesco (unless an unusual size) as they're 98p for 50 C6 white.
