Anyone been to Cork?

Cracklin Rosie, 9 August, 2008 at 09:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 20

I've never been before, but I'm heading there for a weekend with the girls for my friends 40th, so I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for things to do, places to go etc

You lucky thing! I love Cork its my favourite place in the whole world, but alas not the City which is where I suspect you are headed.

    West cork is my heaven.

Not a great help I'm afraid, but have a lovely friends 40th ?

Actually, you're in Ireland - just go with the flow and enjoy!

I've been but flew there straight after a night shift so most of my memories are of a very comfortable bed and a Do Not Disturb sign at the Gresham Metropole. ?

Pretty good shopping, from what I saw of wandering around the town. I didn't get to do the touristy thing though as I was there just long enough for a concert. I must go back and remedy that soon.

After having toyed with the affections of a young lady who insisted upon Paris, Corcaigh isn't that bad.

'Course I suppose you want pickled onions with your fish supper your ladyship.

? But you do! In saying that I am a provincial dullard who may travel to Dublin for a concert, but only under duress.

The fact that I regularly get on a plane to go to concerts makes me frivolous, not glamorous. BK is touring the UK next month but I'll still probably go to more Irish shows than UK ones. I'm a bit dim that way. ?

Then your love affair isn't with BK, but Ireland - he's just your excuse. ?

We'll I think its glamorous so there!

I'm thinking that to embark on a love affair with BK would be a pretty hopeless mission. ?

Ah, 'tis no secret I love the Emerald Isle now, is it? ?

Well, he's been working out and is looking pretty darned buff so go for it, I say. Probably a little more appealing than an ageing Buzzcock. ?

Well now, *ahem* & *allegedly* one of his former co-performers was allegedly quite interested....

But then, again *allegedly* that's not saying much.

I love the way we hi-jacks threads, poor Rosie will be so excited to see 2 pages of recs.

Sorry Rosie, but really you'll not care when you're singing the wrong words to the 'Irish Rover' in a dockers pub.

Hm, yes, maybe we should suggest something to do in Cork.

Er... I've heard the Cork City Gaol is well worth a visit. You can do a historic walking tour of Cork too which I meant to do but I was asleep at the time. Plenty of eateries and drinkeries in the area behind the Opera House, whatever that part of town is called. I'd buy a ticket for the open-topped bus tour. They're always good for a laugh and great for getting your bearings in a new town.
