Anyone from Cambridge or around?

yes2011, 4 February, 2011 at 09:42 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi,

I'm looking for couples getting married (or got married) in Cambridge or in the nearer area. I searched the forum with the search function but found only lots of entries about the "Cambridge diet".

I'm not from here, so I'm having a hard time finding a photographer that's affordable, flowers, musicians and all that. I'd rather rely on experiences of other people than google.

I found a venue already and a DJ though for my August wedding Smiley smile

Please get in touch...

Anja

Hello Anja, I am probably about as much help as a chocolate teapot but I am getting married in Cambridgeshire on 13th of August. So far I have managed to avoid suppliers and gone with friends of friends who have done things as favours. but would love to hear all about your plans!

    Heya Anja,

I'm from a small village in Cambs. Not sure I can help you with much though, sorry Smiley sad

I'm waiting to hear back from a couple of florists for their costings and already had one back, which I was hoping was gonna be a bit less than it was, hence me contacting a couple of others.

I would've recommended my friend James for your DJ he is absolutely brilliant and I would recommend him any chance I could get. His lasers/lights are superb and he really listens to what you want, but then I'm biased as he's a good mate hehe.

I've booked my car through a Peterborough company, he was so lovely and friendly, he restores Rolls Royce cars, here's mine:

I've got a good friend of mine making my cake, she's doing several weddings this year Smiley smile

Regarding a photographer, again this is another friend he already has a business as taking pictures of babies and toddlers and has a couple of contracts with local schools as their photographer and wants to venture into weddings this year, he has weddings booked up before ours in October and he is such a genuine bloke and getting just as excited as us when talking about what pictures/style we want etc. We have our pre wedding shoot on Monday (my birthday) at an ice rink so that should be heaps of fun.

I hope I haven't rambled on too long, if you need any further help, please do get in touch ?

I am getting married in Peterborough. Unfortuatly alot of my suppliers are too far from you. My photographer is Little flowers photography.. she is excellent and will travel. Her prices are reasonable for the standard of her work.

I also have the same wedding car supplier as the post above me from peterborough.

Unfortunately the DJ is the only one already booked...

    LOVE THE CAR THOUGH!

I'd be interested to hear how the pre-shoot went, I love ice skating!

    Thanks,

    Anja

    Hi Anja,

I just moved to Bristol but I lived there for 5 years before and still photograph the majority of my weddings over that way. Obviously I'm a photographer myself but I also know a lot of other photographers, bands, florists etc. Let me know what your budget is for things and I'll point you in the right direction!

    Alex ?

    Hi Alex,

thanks for your message! Our budget is "budget" basically. We're looking currently for a creative student or alumni to do photos, I'm looking for a small flower shop that doesn't overprice, someone playing a string instrument for "walking down the aisle", chocolate favors in a box - these kinds of things. A preloved wedding dress and suit hire if possible. Here and there we can afford to spend a higher sum if we save on other things. Food and venue are set and take most of the budget away. We're paying for the wedding ourselves and I'm a student, hence the hope I can be creative. Ups, I nearly forgot hair and make-up - I'm not up for an expensive spa treatment, just someone who knows more than putting mascara on (thats all I know...).

If you have any hints, I'd really appreciate it. Sorry to hear you're in Bristol now - your pics look really great!

    Cheers,

    Anja

Hi there I am from Peterborough so not sure if its too far for you but we have gone with a florist called Flowerscene in Peterborough and my car is very similar to that above so could even be the same place. Sorry its a bit vague but it was a present so not really sure where its booked.

We have a lovely, reasonably priced make up lady but she is from Stamford so may be a bit expensive with travel costs to Cambridge.

Let me know what other things you need and i'll have a look in my wedding folder. Wedding fayres are also worth a visit as suppliers often have discounts for booking on the day.

My friend's getting married in Cambridge in July but their budget is £20,000 (and he keeps telling me that!) so his recommendations might not be any use but if you want me to ask him then I will ?

One place I will recommend though (I'm based in Spalding so not too far) is a dress shop near March called Savvy Cinderella. They are lovely and the dresses I tried on cost £225 to hire out. Bargain!

    Hi Anja,

Ah don't be sorry about Bristol, it's great over this side of the country! Saying that I am back in Cambridge a couple of times a month since the majority of my weddings are there along with my fiancee's parents and a lot of good friends. I just checked the diary and I am actually still free on your date so if you want to give me a call or email I might be able to sort something out for you.

Failing that, while I would always reccomend a professional, the university photographic society have some really great members. They're obviously inexperienced at weddings but they do have some good photographers and if you're in a real bind financially they might be able to help you out. Anyway, give me a call and I can put you on to the right people.

    Cheers,

    Alex

    Hi Loveleygirl,

which favours are your friends doing? I'm not sure what I can ask of friends. One offered to bake a chocolate cake in addition to the wedding cake because I love her cake so much. Most of my guests are travelling here, so not sure how they can contribute...

    Cheers,

    Anja

    Hi LeeLee X,

how did the pre-shoot go? And is your cake friends baking for weddings as a favour or is she also doing it as a job? If yes, ... let me know...

    Cheers,
