Aren't I too short for this dress?????

NettieP83, 24 October, 2013 at 11:49 Posted on Planning 0 22

Me and my fiance don't have a wedding date yet, but we're thinking of getting married in summer of 2015. Anyway, I already started looking for my perfect dress... Smiley smile And here comes my question : Im really short - 5'4. I absolutely love mermaid styled wedding dresses like these http://allweddingdresses.co.uk/index.php?mod=product_list&id_cat=2&collection=&search=&features%5B%5D=6 But do u think a mermaid dress would suit me? I'm worried I would look really silly but on the other hand I would absolutely love a mermaid dress! ? Pls tell me what u think!!! x

Have you tried any on yet?

I'm only 2 inches taller than you & have a mermaid style dress. Go try some on, you'll never know what suits you until you do! Smiley smile

    Congratulations on your engagement!

You should really go try some on, they can take them up and you can wear heels - problem solved. You may find that although you love that style there are other dresses that suit you better... Smiley smile

I'm 5'0 and very slim and I was very surprised at what looked good on me, I never thought I'd go for a floor length dress with a train but thats what I've got. I was scared to try any dresses on but once I did I realised that most styles looked good on me. Go try one on, you'll never know until you do.

I'm 5ft 2 and suited mermaid style dresses. However if you haven't tried on anything yet I wouldn't get too fixed on what suits you until you do.

Since when was 5'4'' "really short"? ?

A mermaid dress doesn't suit girls based on their height, they suit girls based on their shape. They are going to look better on hourglasses than pears. They are going to look better if your legs are proportionally long, rather than proportionally short.

    Exactly this!

I'm 5'4 and although I'd say in shorter than some I wouldn't say I was 'really short'.

I also have a fishtail dress.

But I agree with FTLOMB, I'm slim (ish) but I have a bit of a bum so a bit curvy. In my opinion my dress suits my shape.

Oh to be 5ft 4!! At 4ft 10 I didn't suit mermaid styles I tried on because I'm very short in the body, it ruled a number of styles out for me but 5ft 4 is a much more average height and that extra 6 inches would make all the difference.

It depends on way more than hight alone, I have a friend who is 5 foot but perfectly proportioned (she has a body to die for) she could look good in absoloutly anything

I'm 5'4 too so joining the club of shorties ?

I agree with others, go and try some on and see how you feel. What sort of shoes will you be wearing? Heels/Flats? If heels you'll get a few inches leeway?

    Good Luck x

And here - except I am 5ft 2". This was actually the style that looked best on me. Try some on, and try lots of styles, the right one should be apparent, even if the exact dress is not!

Im 5 4'' n consider myself small not short lol. i second that it is shape not height when considering fish tail. if im 100% honest i think they suit ''slim'' people with no lumps n bumps.....this is because i dont think the shape of fishtail dresses hide anything. Best thing to do is go any try some dresses on. You will be surprised, the imagine in your head of what you want rarely turns out to be what you get

I'm really sorry if I offended anyone saying 5'4 is short... It was never my intention it's just that I've always considered myself short, maybe it's because most of my family and all my friends are much taller. Anyway, I'm really sorry again.

Abt the dress, I've just booked an appointment for Tuesday to try this gorgeous dress on http://allweddingdresses.co.uk/wedding-dress,Mori-Lee,2608,Mori-Lee-2014,item,21930.html I absolutely love it! I'm getting excited now Smiley smile Can't wait till Tue! I will let you know how I got on Smiley smile Thank you all for your precious advise xx

I'm 5ft 1 and therefore at 5ft 4 you are practically a supermodel to me! I'm having a fishtail/mermaid style dress and actually feel quite tall in it! ha!

    xx

NettieP - that dress is lovely! Make sure you take the opportunity to try on lots of other styles as well though because even if this is THE dress it's still nice to try a few others on as well just to rule a few shapes out.

Does depend on your proportions; I'm 5'3" and some of the mermaid styles didn't work as they had to have the length taken off the end, rather than the body, which some places won't do. I'd go try some on if I were you - with the height heels you want to wear on the day, to be sure of your overall height Smiley smile

Think Im going a little bit mental here Smiley laugh I've set the picture of the dress as my desktop background on my pc and I look at it every 5 seconds! And I smile at myself Smiley smile I actually think the dress gets more beautiful every time I look at it! f haha Do you think it's a common reaction to finding ur ideal dress??? Smiley laugh Few more weeks and I will be more in love with my dress than with my fiance! ?
