As if I wasn't stressed enough...... UPDATED

Blossom_10, 21 July, 2011 at 16:43 Posted on Planning 0 23

....... I get married in 6 weeks and my Dad has had a stroke and is in hospital learning how to walk again :-( gutted xxxx

Sorry to be depressing but just needed to share xx

Thank you all for your thoughts and best wishes. I thought i'd let you all know that Dad has been discharged from hospital and seems to be managing well on his own at home. He's not going to be able to drive at the time of the wedding so his ex sister in law has offered to bring him up from plymouth! Fingers crossed he will continue to improve and be 100% for the wedding.

Thanks again for all your support xxxxx

Well he manged to call me to tell me this morning but I couldn't really understand what he was saying as his speach was really bad. He's hundreds of miles away and is on his own. He's told me under no circumstances to make the journey to see him unless he's out of hospital. He is having physio so they can teach him to walk. Feel really helpless :-(

    Thanks for ?

Its a bit tricky as his family live somewhere else and he's divorced from my mum so its really just his friends that are around and I don't know them at all.

Sending all my best wishes Blossom.

Do you know how severe the stroke is, and when it happened?

My poor Gran has a very bad stroke at the end of May 2009. And being 88 years old it took her a little while to recover, but her speech is now back to normal and so is her walking (although she is a little un-steady and uncertain). I saw some amazing recoveries during the time that I visited and people recovering much quicker than you'd ever think possible - the nurses were truely fab in her rehabilitation centre.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. Strokes affect different people in different ways, if your dad is already seeing the physios he must have a really good chance at a decent recovery - the quicker they start on the therapy the quicker the results.

Sending positive thoughts your way. Like judeclarke said, strokes affect people in so many different ways and it does sound positive that your dad is having physio already. My uncle had a serious stroke at Christmas and it was almost fatal but he has made remarkable progress and he will be giving me away. Stay strong x

I hope your Dad makes a speedy recovery. Why not plan to visit him in a couple of weeks, whether he is in or out of hospital. I'm sure the 'anticipation' of a visit from his daughter will be motivation for leaps and bounds.

    big hugs as well.

Oh blossom, so sorry to hear that....really hopes he makes a fast recovery. My grandad had three strokes in the space of about 9 months two years ago but made a fantastic recovery thanks to a great physio and a helluva lot of steely determination. Stroke recovery really is something that a strong desire to 'get better' really can have an amazing impact on so though it sounds harsh - keep pushing him to push himself! ?

Sorry to hear about your Dad, Blossom.

Hopefully now that he has started physio he will make a full recovery, the earlier they can start this the better. Hopefully they have also sorted out a speech therapist for him too.

Take strength and comfort from your many friends on hitched.
