Back and married, swift report but lots of ***flash!***

emmy1979, 2 September, 2010 at 17:09 Posted on Planning 0 39

Hello, well I've been back from our honeymoon since last Sat and I'm now a Mrs. It's taken me a while to gather my thoughts on the wedding. It was erm.....mixed to say the least. I'm not writing a report because it might sound a bit negative and I don't want it to come across that way. Had a fair few things go wrong - it was really windy so my lovely curly hair got ruined, the bunting I ordered didn't arrive so had to use venue's white bunting which didn't look as good, all the kids ran wild (literally), same kids trashed my cake and sweet table before the ceremony started, the wedding coordinator ruined our carefully timed and orchestrated ipod disco by jogging it around all the time and to be honest she wasn't the most professional person in the world, my dad forgot to mention me in his speech ?, and to top it off my 7 year old son threw up on my wedding dress at the end of the night. It was possibly one of the most stressful days of my life ?

HOWEVER, the ceremony was lovely, walking down the aisle to a piano version of Cyndi Lauper's 'Time after time' felt brilliant. The actual getting married bit was the best bit of the day. The food was really nice, everyone got merrily drunk, loads of people sent us some lovely and hilarious postcards in our postbox, we did all the traditional things like cutting the cake (with a sword ? see pic), throwing my bouquet and the first dance - didn't plan any of them they just happened. The cupcakes and my daisy flower bouquet were AMAZING! Everyone raved about my dress, which was a relief because I was worried it was a bit too offbeat, my seamstress persuaded me to go whole hog vintage and have an ankle length hemline. Got to see friends who I hadn't seen for ages, everyone 'got' the vintage theme immediately and our family was finally made complete and we are official! So now for the pics....hope you like them and there's not to many, eeeek!

Mrs A

Spangles - have you got much left to do then? Or are you in the weird calm before the storm bit where everything is done but all that's left to do is get nervous?

My sis behaved on the day but let rip after the wedding with a tirade of all things we did wrong, which included letting everyone get to the cupcakes before the 'right' time but I just shrugged my shoulders and went 'Meh'. She's a flipping nightmare that one. I can't WAIT until it's her wedding mwaaah ha ha ha!

VickyJ - Thanks for those comments. ? Think that's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me!

Ha ha! I'm the wrong side of 30 BSB! I'm glad my tog managed to get the sweets in before they all disappeared too. The photo's all look a bit fuzzy cos I've compressed them, think it's ironed out the wrinkles!

    Hello MRS!

I'm so sorry it was a bit stressful and you have mixed feelings. I was exactly the same over my wedding, a few things upset me and I didn't enjoy the day as much as I thought I would. I'd love to do it all over again and chill a bit and enjoy every single moment!! But I must say your photos are stunning! You look fab and your venue looks fantastic, the white bunting looks lovely. Your cake is so cute!

Congratulations to you and your husband! I hope you had a lovely honeymoon.

Aw thanks, you've made me feel better to know I'm not alone. I remember reading a post from Penny Farthing a while ago (who also had a vintage wedding, must be cursed ?) who said she couldn't write a report because she was traumatised about her day as loads of things went wrong. I thought at the time that she must be a bit mad not to have enjoyed it but now I know that it doesn't always go to plan. Like you, I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. Perhaps my expectations were too high? I too wish I'd taken some kind of (pharmaceutically approved) drug that calmed me down, I felt so stressed all day and night. Martyne's report made me cry because she said she wished her wedding day could be her groundhog day. That's so lovely and I'm so jealous! But I do look back on the ceremony with absolute happiness and if that part went right, that's all that matters isn't it.

Sorry to hear there were some mishaps on the day, but glad you enjoyed elements of it and that you're now man and wife. Hope you had a lovely honeymoon too - you're pics are fab and those cupcakes look AMAZING! Yum! Is it too early for cake?! (Bearing in mind I've also already had a pack of Monster Munch! Haha!)

Your pictures are beautiful. For such a day of hiccups you look absolutely serene in your photos, and actually, I really like how your hair looks in the black and white photo of the two of you looking back at the camera, don't know why, but it makes me think cathy and heathcliff for some reason! Enjoy married life, look forward to seeing you on OT.

Mrs Emmy!!! Biggest Congratulations to you and your husband!

You look A M A Z I N G! Absolutely love your dress and the cut - you can see your gorgeous vintage shoes too! So sorry about the 'difficult' bits - that you were stressed, but so glad the getting married part was the best bit - me too without a doubt and that's what matters. Plus it sounds like there was much more good than bad and like the others have said, you wouldn't know it all from your photos - everything looked stunning and complete vintage chic!

Also, I'm not saying people don't mean it when they say their day was perfect or anything, but I do think in reality things rarely are. I guess it depends on your attitude towards it, but weddings are the most built up things in the world with so much planned and hoped just for that one day, I'm not even sure it's possible for everything to be completely wonderful. Not that I'm belittling what did happen and how you felt - I would have been the same for sure, and am about the odd little sore part of our day. (Your poor little boy btw, bet he and you were so upset. Thank Lordy it was at the end of the night, silver linings and all that ? )

I can't believe your hair after all your effort and I'm sorry they fell out, but have to say your hair looks so lovely in the pictures, so hope you know even if it wasn't how you planned it, you looked absolutely gorgeous.

Congratulations again, you both look so happy! xx

PS How sweet is the Est 20 August sign? Love, love, love it!
