Balloons

Michelle772012, 7 September, 2011 at 19:04 Posted on Planning 0 42

Hey Hitchers

just wanted to know what the general feeling was on balloons, i have 26 tables in total to decorate and rather than every table having a main centre peice with flowers/candles etc i thought i could break it up by having 3 helium balloons on every other table, plus a wedding arch over top table, nothing is set in stone and i have not ordered anything yet just wondered how others felt about balloons, or if you have done any how you had them pics would be nice too,

All opinions appreciated i wont be offended

thanks

Michelle

A wedding isnt a wedding without balloons!!! We will be having them for the evening, and by BIL's chair will have one single one during the day - it is a family joke that the party starts when Jon sucks the helium from the balloon, so he needs one to kick off the proceedings!

I do however think that arches are slightly tacky. (sorry)

I recently went to a weddign where there was a balloon bride and a balloon groom - they stood about 3ft tall!

I was thinking the same ref arch hence the hmmm they tried to talk me into bride and groom on the phone and a 56 inch balloon filled with mini balloons and confetti to be popped after first dance i felt the conversation was going slightly over the top at this point although if i actually saw it i might like it x

Not a fan of balloons i am afraid and certainly not arches, however with 26 tables!!! i can understand why you are looking to keep the costs down, for the price of the balloons is there nothing else that you could look at similar price wise?

I have a massive thing about balloons, I hate the noise they make and the popping so there will be no balloons at my wedding! I'm not a big fan of balloons at weddings full stop really but agree with the others than 26 tables is a lot.

How many guests does that mean you will have?!

For me personally balloons are for parties and not weddings, I just think they look tacky.

However with 26 tables I can see why you need to keep costs down. Could you do something as simple as £1 vases from Ikea with a single flower in?

Hi ladies thanks for all of your comments i have 120 guests plus 14 bridal party on top table and a childrens table i can do other options but thought balloons may have made it look less regimental as with that many tables people are on rectangular ones in lines kind of like below

    -----------------

    ! ! !

    ! ! !

and so on any suggestions appreciated

i have looked into rektangular vase from Ikea its under £2.00 so not expensive and am getting all flowers from local flower market but wanted to look at other options and someone suggested balloons tbh if i did have the balloons i mentioned it works out at £190 so prob cheaper to have vases just want it to look nice and not like we are sat at school lol x

To me, balloons are for kids parties, not weddings.

I went to a wedding a few weeks back where they had balloons. Look OK to start, but the kids soon figured out how to detach the balloons from their weights, then cried when the balloons floated off. Even the arch over the top table wasn't safe once the kids realised that the weights were little boxes of pebbles - then followed a fight involving 9-year-old boys throwing said pebbles.

I'm not having any balloons at the wedding breakfast. My room at night has approx 20 tables so am taking the candleabras through and then having 3 ballons on every other table to jazz it up a bit. My colour scheme is ivory and gold so hoping it doesn't look much like a kids party and more weddingy? xx

I'm not a fan of balloons but OH wants them.

We have compromised by having just 10 sets of 3 balloons for the evening reception, , , ,

I am not a fan of balloons at weddings either, I do like them a parties though.

Is it possible to have a few table with high centrepieces to draw the eye and the rest with simpler low vases with similar flowers and candles?

I used to think they looked tacky, but i really think it depends on which ones you get. We ended up having a display of 3 per table, all pearlescant, ivory, champagne and a balloon in a balloon, like a gold/ivory mix. They were really beautiful!

If im honest i dont like the arches though

    xx

I love balloons at weddings, think they can make the room look really lovely. I don't get why people feel they're not appropriate for weddings really, fair enough if you don't like them, I just don't understand some of the tacky/for kids parties not wedding comments!

There are some lovely ones about, as well at the plain types, I was at a wedding last week with these - a balloon within a balloon, the room looked fab! Another friend had them in place of any centre pieces and I don't think anyone noticed.

Good luck sorting your decorations ?

I cant stand balloons but I get that with 26 tables it would be quite an expensive do to have centre peices for all. If you like the idea of balloons go for it.

Generally speaking in the camp of "not at a wedding" although I do like these round ones...

Not a fan of balloon arches/columns/general balloon 'art' though...

I'm not a fan of balloons and think the arches are very 80's, but each to their own.

I am not a fan of balloons at weddings, it reminds me of the 1980s. I am having my reception at a village hall so have avoided balloons, mainly cos I have to be careful it doesn't look like Phoenix Nights.

Wow, I had no idea balloons were so devisive! I know there were balloons around at parties when many of us were kids in the 80s but there were also penny sweets and loads of us are having sweet buffets! It doesn't have to be "tacky" and while it may not work for so many people I'm sure you could do loads of awesome stuff with balloons.

If you like them, have them! I like the fact they can bring a wide variety of height difference and a really different dynamic to the event. Our venue won't allow them so we never looked into it.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of balloon arches or balloon centre pieces either.

Can I ask why you've got 26 tables? You said you've got 120 people plus the top table - that only makes about 5 people on each table.

I am definately not doing the arch its the whole reason i asked for opinions as i have been to some weddings where balloons have been done tastefully and others where cheap ones were used and didnt match colour scheme etc, i have decided to have a few 3 teir luxury balloons to break the room up they will be in my colours and since my day wb doesnt start until 5pm i feel its ok to have them as, as soon as we have had our food it will go straight into the eve the way i see it is i dont want everything overly formal i need to break up the way the tables are laid due to having so many i could do bigger centrepeices but for 2 hours i'm not sure its worth the cost i may have the same centrepeice on every table and some candles so they are not used as centrepeices like i had originally thought i might do and it will then have thhe party feel which ultimately my wedding is, thanks everyone for your thought its great to have lots of support when planning something so huge.

    Hi Purple pixie

    i have 120 guests plus 9 children = 22

4 for top table as you only sit one side and i have to have another table that sit 2 added to the end my bouquet will be used for main top table centrepeice but will add 2 more that tie in with the tables either side

does my math work i have been working to 26 tables anyway lol im confused now going to have to get the old calculator out

Normally very much in the 'no balloons at weddings' camp but these are lovely. Very nicely done.

Michelle - you say you have 120 guests and 9 kids? so 129 guests? I didn't quite understand your post about the top table etc but if you are only having 4 people on it, that's only 125 people left to seat. Which should be an extra 13 tables approx.

I'm having about 136 guests and will be having 14 tables including the top table (approx 10 guests per table).
