Been looking for MOB outfit today

overtherainbow, 20 August, 2010 at 13:07 Posted on Planning 0 11

Oh, it's so difficult when your only 5ft tall Smiley sad Everything is plunging necklines which are down to my waist, long and flowing which can't be shortened, patterned - no good for diddy people as it's too busy, or no sleeves - not a good look for someone in their mid fifties so keep plodding on!

My mum's worrying about what she's going to wear, she's only 4ft 11 and she turns 60 in a month, which she's not looking forward to!

It's really difficult because I don't feel or act my age and in my head I'm still 25 ish! All my usual clothes are much the same as I wore in my 30's but I'm getting paranoid about looking mutton dressed as lamb! Yet all the outfits that have normal necklines and sleeves in I wouldn't want to wear because they look so Grandma'ish. I did see a nice dress and bolero jacket with ruffles around - really nice but £800 Ouch!

Do Phase Eight have a petite section? My MIL wore one of their dresses and it looked fab. Precis Petite are also quite good I think if you use a bit of imagination with accessories and stuff.

ETA: I love all of these and I think most could be shortened if necessary

My mum has a couple of outfits depending on how much weight she loses! She is 5 foot 2 and has gone for this (which she got in the sale at Debenhems:

She's got a skirt and top combo (the pattern on the scarf in the pic) in case she cant fit into the dress, but she's got the shoes, bag and fascinator which all match both the skirt/top and the dress, and the jacket which is lovely.

Jacque Verts has some nice stuff, plus with the Debenhams sale they are a bargin.

My mum is quite 'mumsy' with her clothes though!

I like the phase eight pink one with short sleeves! - I hate showing the tops of my arms though so strappy is a no go area I'm afraid! I love the fascinator Mrs B2B, I really like the dress too but again, because it's no sleeves, it's not for me. I'm so fair skinned, I look ill in sleeveless dresses! I know I'm awkward LOL!

My Mum is also having a bit of a stress finding an outfit. We have quite different tastes so everything she has pointed out at the moment has been a bit ? for my tastes but I think we're going to have a look after xmas as she wants to lose weight.

Everything I've seen though so far for MOB is either really 'mumsy' and old fashioned or the other extreme - ultra tight and low cut and 'slutty'!

My mum only just got her outfit there a couple of weeks ago. She got it in a local department store. I cant remember the brand or it, but i will look at it and see. Its a lovely outfit and my mums not much over 5 foot either! She got her hat, which she said you would think was made for it, in Eastex. I think they had some nice pieces as well, when we were looking! do keep plodding on and you will find your oufit!! Smiley smile
