    Good old Corinthians for me! I'm the same as you - not a avid church goer but I still attend on an occasional basis -

    1 Corinthians 13: verses 4-8a & 13

    Love is patient and kind;

    Love is not jealous or boastful;

    It is not arrogant or rude.

    Love does not insist on its own way

    It is not irritable or resentful;

    It does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.

    Love bears all things,

    believes all things,

    hopes all things,

    endures all things.

    Love never ends.

    Now we see in a mirror dimly, but then we shall see face to face.

    Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.

    So, faith, hope and love abide, these three;

    but the greatest of these

    is love.

    I chose this for my wedding. Hope it helps someone:

    A Reading from the Book of Ruth 1:16-17

    But Ruth said, "Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you!
    Where you go, I will go; Where you lodge, I will lodge;
    Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
    Where you die, I will die --there will I be buried.
    May the Lord do thus and so to me,
    and more as well, if even death parts me from you!"

    Ideas on here...

    http://www.cofe.anglican.org/lifeevents/weddings/musicreadings.html

    We had Ecclesiastes 4....

    9 Two are better than one,
    because they have a good return for their work:

    10 If one falls down,
    his friend can help him up.
    But pity the man who falls
    and has no one to help him up!

    11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
    But how can one keep warm alone?

    12 Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
    A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

    We had OH's two sisters read these, one answers the other - our vicar described this as "very racy stuff" but in a good way!

    Song of Solomon 2.10-13; 8.6,7

    My beloved speaks and says to me:
    'Arise, my love, my fair one,
    and come away;
    for now the winter is past,
    the rain is over and gone.
    The flowers appear on the earth;
    the time of singing has come,
    and the voice of the turtle dove
    is heard in our land.
    The fig tree puts forth its figs,
    and the vines are in blossom;
    they give forth fragrance.
    Arise, my love, my fair one,
    and come away.'

    Set me as a seal upon your heart,
    as a seal upon your arm;
    for love is strong as death,
    passion fierce as the grave.
    Its flashes are flashes of fire,
    a raging flame.
    Many waters cannot quench love,
    neither can floods drown it.
    If one offered for love
    all the wealth of one's house,
    it would be utterly scorned

    For the Gospel we had

    John 15:9-12

    9"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
