Buffet idea...a bit corny, maybe?

lilrach22, 8 June, 2011 at 19:33 Posted on Planning 0 16

Iv come up with an idea i quite like for our buffet but i cant decide if its a bit corny or not!

Its a kind of around the world tapas buffet where we will have lots of different types of food from different places eg, mexican, chinese, indian, italian and some good old english food too!

I thought it might be nice to have a good variety of things for ppl to try because im not really a fan of the same old buffet food!

Anywhooo thats my idea, opinions apricated and also any suggestions welcome!

Thanks

I looove looove looove tapas and eat it it as often as possible (and if olives/cheese counts as tapas, everyday). I like this idea, as long as the English tapas is sausages-on-sticks Smiley smile You could label the platters with little flags and signs...Dim sum, antipasti, tapas, etc...Oh, maybe with the native word/symbol for "love"?

My venue offered a (Spanish) tapas buffet and we were very tempted but having tried to feed it to both of our parents on separate occasions to, shall we say, not overwhelming support, we decided against it.

ETA: Japan/sushi might fit as well?

We love tapas too hence the idea! We go to a little cuban restaurant above my grandads local pub and the food is AMAZING! Im thinking of asking the ladies that own it to knock up the cuban part of the buffet? i love your idea of the little flags maybe with a little fact about the country or maybe some trivia?

    Smiley smile

I'm not so sure about "different food for the sake of it" but if you can somehow incorporate things from different countries that have meanings - places you've been on holiday, where your friends originate from, etc etc then I think it could work.

I think it sounds great, and with the little flag canape sticks too...

A friend of ours had a fusion wedding and the buffet went from Indian at one end (samosas, curries..) into tradtional english buffet (sausage rolls, scotch eggs..) and then into an East End buffet (jellied eels, whelks...). The variety of food went down a storm!

If you could link it to your own experiences that would be ace but not a bad idea even if not!

I don't think you necessarily need to link it to your own experiences. I love the idea, but I'd make sure you go the whole hog and don't do it half heartedly. The flag idea is great.

    Sounds ace!

I went to a great party last year where they had different food stations (I know this is popular at weddings in the US). The one I went to had a sushi chef making things up for you as requested, an oyster bar, a BBQ and a bowl food bar providing all sorts of comfort food. It worked really well.

I think that sounds like a fab idea! As a guest, I would be *well* chuffed to have that much variation in a buffet as I adore sushi, tapas, and mexican. And to have it all on one plate would just be mmmmmmmm ?

Think it's a fab idea - certainly better than the usual sausage rolls etc. I'd certainly like to see something like this and there's just soooooooooo much variety you should be able to keep everyone happy.
