Calling all you stylish Hitchers

HatTrick, 4 April, 2013 at 12:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

Please find me a dress for O's Christening in July. What is one supposed to wear to a Christening?

Budget: SMP friendly. I am hoping to be a not so dumpy size 12 by then, would be pushing my look for a 10 I think.

I don't really go to christenings that often but the last one I went to, I wore a pair of grey trousers, a V-neck print/bead/bright top (of the Monsoon variety) and a long pale pink coat. It was absolutely years ago though.

I always think christenings are fairly informal. Any floaty chiffon type top/blouse and trousers/skirt will be, in my cabbage, fine.

Actually, the last "christening" I went to was a naming ceremony. As a proud guidemother, I wore a pair of old turned up jeans, a bright red, one shoulder jersey top and a pair of red Birkenstocks. Ha ha, I don't think the grandparents were overly impressed. It was a hog roast in the middle of summer though, what did they expect?

Oasis have some gorgeous dresses in , haven't got time to look at the moment but I think you would look lovely in some sort of shift dress, capped sleves, you need to think comfy as with the shoes, as you'll be stood up for quite a while.

I went to one the other day and wore a floaty nude skirt (a bit shorter than knee length) nude tights, a black top with a black cardigan over it and black heels.

I bought a dress in Primark yesterday which doesnt look at all primarky and would be great for a christening.

Its this one - it would look lovely with a nice pastel coloured jacket and heels in nude or also a pastel-y colour

Its just on the knee length on me and has a little bow and cut out detail on the back

Lovely dress Rod, but how is that knee length on you? I know it would scarcely cover my bum?

I'd pick out one of the stronger colours for accessories - teal or fuchsia pink perhaps, rather than go pastel.

I'd second Primark, they've got some lovely stuff at the moment. I saw a dress similar to the one Rod's posted but in a greeny colour. It was a thick structured sort of fabric, so would look good on too.

Rod I love that dress, think I'll be making a trip to Primark sharpish!

It is lovely though, I might brave the hell that is Primark on the weekend to see if it comes anywhere near my knee.

Matalan have this dress in a variety of colours and patterns. I bought one last year and usually wear it with a wider tan belt and tan wedges. It's comfortable and very flattering.

Ooo yes OB, been craving those slushes ever since. Went swimming yesterday and they had a slush machine in the cafe but it was a healthy mango juice one, I passed due to the lack of E numbers.
