Campers/caravanners: Recommendations for campsite for short break

R-A, 4 April, 2009 at 21:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Any suggestions for a nice area and/or campsite for a short break in June-ish?

Was thinking of the Lakes but we are in London so I think it's a bit far to go just for 4/5 days.

However, somewhere with some nice walking/hiking would be good. Maybe coastal? Some kind of town nearby for meals out and a bit of wandering/sightseeing would also be nice.

Prefer smaller sites, preferably rural, quirky is good! Not fussed about bars/games rooms and all that jazz. We would probably take the campervan so electric hookup would be useful.

I'm trawling on ukcampsite but personal recommendations much appreciated. Anywhere within a 3/4 hour drive of London would be easily do-able, though we'd think about further if it was really nice.

TIA ?

If you do decide on the Lakes, we have stayed here

It's very clean and only a short distance from Bowness on Windermere.

Sent it again, I am having loads of mailing problems at the mo, aol seems to think all my mail is spam, I keep missing work stuff etc..so annoying.

If you decide on Cornwall there are loads near us, I am on the north coast near Rock and Polzeath. We have some fab walks and you've got the Camel Trail for cycling and great beaches and Padstow just a ferry ride away. Give me a shout if you want any rec's.

Not sure if West Wales is too far for you RA but this place is gorgeous - my H and I fell upon it when camping on another (more commercial) site in Barmouth and have said if we go back we'll def stay here next time

I'd consider Pembrokeshire or the Peak District for a kind of Lake District lite if it's too far from London for a few days.

There again, my brother drove from Norf Landan, via us in North Oxfordshire to the Lakes for one night's camping, the silly bugger.

We're off to the Hope Valley area of the Peak District in June, for 4 nights. Castleton seems to have a lot of activities so we're camping near there.

We stayed at Tir Bach Farm in Pembrokeshire a couple of years ago and loved it - fab location and loved the camp fire.

Tents only because of the location but they also have yurts!

I asked for campsite recommendations a while back and someone suggested this one - https://www.silversandsholidaypark.co.uk/

We liked the look of it so much we've booked for July.
