Can anyone recommend a resort in Egypt?

moonpie1985, 6 November, 2011 at 20:48 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 12

Still looking at honeymoons (feel like we have been searching for a whole year now!)

Top of the list was Mexico, but I am still not all that sold on such a long flight time.

I have been to Egypt before and the flight time was fine, and I thought the place was excellent.

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency and it was perfect in every way, but seeing as that was a family holiday, I feel it might be a bit weird going back to it for my honeymoon.

Can anyone recommend a resort? Preferably in the Sharm El Sheik area.

And also, any recomendations of travel companies to book it through would be great.

We Stayed at the Ritz Carlton in the Hadaba area of Sharm el Sheikh in June. It's rated 4 out of 5 on Tripadvisor and there are some mixed reviews but we loved it. There is no beach as such but there is fantastic snorkelling directly off the floating pier at the hotel. Our room was really spacious and immaculate and the staff were really nice. It's a short taxi journey from Na'ama Bay if you want some nightlife and a 10 minute stroll to il Mercado plaza which has lots of shops and restaurants.

I went to Sharm last month and we stayed at Jaz Mirabel Beach and it was great. Thompsons are the only ones that do that hotel in the UK.

It's a huge hotel, right on the beach and they are just finishing a pier that goes way out into the sea, perfect if you like snokeling. It was my first stay there but the rest of my family have been to that hotel 4 times now.

Staff are all very friendly and I would say I would feel safe going back and staying at the hotel on my own.

We're looking to book another holiday somewhere different for March and out of all the contries Eqypt is still coming out the cheapest by far. Fantastic weather.

Forgot to mentio, we travelled with inspiredluxuryescapes.com. We had 20kg baggage allowance even though we flew on Thomson airline, else it would have been 15kg.

We have stayed at a Ritz Carlton (the one in Istanbul). It was absolutely fantastic and assuming they're all of the same standard would be a wonderful option....this one was 5 star....

Carli the Ritz-Carlton in Sharm is 5 star but you couldn't compare it to a 5 star in Dubai for example. I agree on the baggage allowance! One of the reasons I don't book with Thomson. I'm sure there is a higher allowance for long haul flights but not sure. You can of course pay if you want a heavier allowance, again ridiculous. Plus it seems there are so many payable extras with their holidays.

The Jaz Mirabel is a Thomson Platinum hotel so our allowance was boosted to 20kg suitcase and 7 kg hand luggage and I still struggled! ?

    Thanks for the responses.

The Ritz Carlton has come up a lot on searches, and seems well recommended, so will take a further look at that.

I will second the Ritz. Staff amazing, food amazing and it sits right on the reef so you just walk about 2 minutes from the pool into the sea. We saw more fish on this part of the reef than on the snorkelling boat trip we went out on. If I returned to Sharm I would defo return to here!

    ThanKs for the replies.

To the people who have stayed at the Ritz - is there much to do locally? Is it near enough to get to restaurants/bars? Are the standard rooms good enough for honeymoon or is it worth upgrading?
