If you have a cold or the flu, do you still go into work or call in sick?

I usually go in to work. I don't get paid if I dont go in, so unless I really was too ill to go in then I would.

I always go in! Usually picked it up from work anyway!

Would never take time off for a cold or cough etc. Last time I took time off work was when I smashed my face in, in a car crash but that was only because my car was written off, I'd have gone in else. I was back to work within a day after borrowing a car, then had another day off a week later for surgery, back to work again the following day. I'm known for my reliability at work and like to keep it that way.

I'd call in if I were being sick, but for a cold I go in. I've never had one bad enough that I really felt I couldn't make it in, though lying on the sofa is nicer when you feel utter pants.

I got sent home monday, so bad I couldnt drive OH had to get a bus for over an hour to drive me back.Stayed off tuesday.

Battled through wednesday, worked from home thursday, went in today too busy to deal with being ill.

I have laryngitis with my cold. Not helpful in my line of work.I also cant take anything but paracetamol so I am always buggered in Winter.

I have had a cold this week. I wouldn't normally take time off but on Monday I was so ill that I couldn't focus at work at all, was completely exhausted and had a raging temperature. Plus I was coughing and sneezing all day - which isn't nice for the customers when you are serving them food. I took Tuesday off and still felt cr@p on wednesday but went in anyway because we are short-staffed as it is.

I think going in when you have flu is ridiculous.

For flu I would stay at home as it's completely debilitating. With a cold, it really depends. Nine times out of ten I would go in, but if it's really bad then I would consider staying at home.

In the office I used to work at we were all terrible for coming in when we were ill, which meant that we would all catch whatever it was, so it would really just be better if whoever got it first took a day or two off to save everyone else. Now, I'm a student teacher, so I drag myself in even if I've got a leg hanging off* if I'm at school as if I have more than 5 days off placement across the whole year I have to do extra at the end before I can qualify.

*might possibly take time off if my leg was hanging off as don't want to terrify the kids.

For a cold I go in. If I'm feeling really rough I sit in the back of the office doing some admin work instead of being at the front desk serving customers. I'd stay at home if I had flu, until I was feeling fit enough to drive in and be of some use!

Depends on how bad it was. Last week I had a whole week off work with a stinker of a cold. It was the very sneezy, snotty variety, and it would have been impossible to avoid infecting everyone who came within feet of me. With a minor sniffle I would go in.

With flu it's just plain irresponsible to go to work. Flu kills people and if you have it you really shouldn't risk giving it to anyone else, quite apart from the fact that there are very few jobs anyone with flu can do effectively.

I think what a lot of people call flu is actually a cold. Saying it's flu just makes people think it's more serious so people don't feel so guilty about staying off, but I think you should feel guilty for infecting other people!
