Constipation......

(Claire), 22 March, 2013 at 15:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Is a b@stard! I have been sat on the loo rocking like a mad person, rubbing my belly, I've had a cup of green tea, and nothing is helping me. My stomach is killing me. I had trapped wind last night and it was vile the pain is so intense and it takes your breath! IBS really is the sh1ts, excuse the pun. What can I do to stop the pain?

You need to get some Buscopan from Boots (I think you should be able to get it from Tesco's or Sainsbury's) My H has IBS and he takes this to help the cramping.

Have you tried to lean back against the cistern, so that your body is flatter? That helps me move the apparently unmoveable. Or, you could put your feet on the toilet seat, so you are effectively squatting, which might help you along?

Do you have anything in the house that contains artificial sweetener? I always find a dose of that (sugar-free sweets, diet drinks) gets me going.

My cousin has IBS amongst other problems and was told to put her feet up on something (e.g. pile of books) whilst going to the loo, as our bodies are designed to squat rather than sit and that mimicks the correct posture. Apparently it straightens everything out to ease The Passing.

I get this with my IBS. I've found that buscopan helps. Peppermint is supposed to help too so I drink peppermint tea, not sure it really does anything though. I would stay away from codeine as that causes me to have terrible stomach cramps. But paracetamol can help.

Oohh dont take codeine!! That causes constipation. I take dihydracodeine every day and am also prescribed (TMI) stool softeners to deal with the fall out (or not as the case may be!!) Wahaaaaaahahaha!

*Waits for OB to come and pi$$ herself laughing at stool softeners.*?

Squatting on the loo definitely helps me.

I had an IBS episode on Wednesday night mainly due, I think, to some shitty news at work. Hideous, hideous cramps which gave me the opposite problem, Buscopan helped to stop the cramps.

I also had severe constipation a few weeks ago due to 3 days of diazepam & codeine. I hadn't been for several days & hadn't twigged I hadn't been ? It was flipping awful & I was on the verge of having to seek medical help it was that bad. I bought some glycerin suppositories in the end & a couple of them did the trick. Initially I took senekot but realised I was attacking the wrong end as it were.

Since then, I've had a glass of prune juice each morning which helps keep things moving.

My eldest has suffered from constipation, pretty much since birth. He had Necrotizing Enterocolitis, and now he can only "go" once or twice a week.

Horrid being constipated. I've only ever really had it after I had C, and was on iron tablets. I was drinking litres of orange juice to help, also Calfig.

My son had that at birth too and for the first few years the constipation was agonising for him and painful to watch him suffer. He has severe learning difficulties and autism too. When he was about 5 we put him on a wheat and dairy free diet. His constipation stopped, he also has porridge every morning.

    Lactulose is also fantastic

Oh god! Its awful. I had it really bad after general anaesthetic and loads of pain killers. I took to apricot and prune juice and over the counter remedy pills. I had it so bad I bled every time I went to the loo Smiley sad

My son has mild learning difficulties. He was suspected to have Aspergers, but all investigations so far came back negative. His docs just think he's "quirky". Never come across anyone else who had a child with NEC.
