Contraception

Knees, 9 January, 2012 at 12:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 68

I've been on the pill pretty much constantly since I was 16. I'm now 28. I've decided to come off it in preparation for TTC after the wedding. I am now in the position of having to go and buy condoms for the first time in several years! So I have questions for you that I'm almost too embarassed to ask people in real life!

1. Where do you buy them?

2. Which ones are the best?

3. Where do you keep them?

4. What else do I need to know?!

    ?

Also worth noting, they can be quite uncomfortable if your man is blessed.

To all you condom gurus out there - do they do larger sizes?

Re: putting one on. A clue...despite what The Inbetweeners say, don't try it with your mouth. Or your bum.

Waah! As far as I know, you can get condoms in different sizes now. Therefore no need for teeny men to use the wrapper of a funsize Mars bar.

I don't. I send Mr RB! We don't use many. Only if I've accidentally missed a pill.

Goodness no! Quite the opposite in fact.

OT never fails to amaze me! Last week it was bog roll, this week it's condoms!!

They're a real mood killer for me. Being in the middle of hanky panky and then having to fumble through your drawer/purse/wallet for a condom, then spend a couple of minutes putting it on... Buuuut, they prevent unwanted pregnancy & STDs, so it's something I can deal with.

Ok, if it's taking two minutes to put one on, you're definitely out of practice. Or using the wrong part your body (see earlier posts).

I prefer them, although it's more medical than anything else. We switched several years ago after I started to have problems after sex, cervix, um, bleeding, sorry TMI. It stopped immediately we switched.

    1. Where do you buy them? Almost anywhere - Tescos, corner shop, chemist

    2. Which ones are the best? Depends who you ask - Durex are gold standard, check for a kitemark though

    3. Where do you keep them? Any where you are likely to have sex - bedside cabinet, glove box, next to the TV etc

    4. What else do I need to know?! Are you both OK with Latex? Latex allergy is a huge problem with condoms.

Who asked about sizes? One size should fit most, I've only evey met 1 guy who needed bigger and that was in length, I've never met a guy who need extra width. Have you ever seen someone put one over their head? They stretch a looooooong way.

    HILARIOUS!

My GP Surgery has a new age computer system so I just log in, tap condoms (inc size/flavour requirements) and then in 3 mins the receptionist calls me over hands over a paper bag full glorious contraceptiveness....

    Free too...

Just be careful if buying over the internet rather than in a shop - according to some thing I saw on telly or in a newspaper a while back Durex is something like the 3rd most counterfeited brand in the world. We'd bought from ebay for much cheapness a couple of times before but stopped as soon as I learned that.

Make sure that they are not expired or they will be useless!

Don't use very often... not a fan but appreciate their usefulness at not being preggers!

This is true, but I would like to add that any condoms purchased from Amazon are the 'real deal', I can vouch for that! This applies only to condoms purchased from Amazon though, obviously there are marketplace sellers who sell on Amazon (but are not Amazon themselves), I cannot vouch for the authenticity of those sold by marketplace sellers.

We don't use them but I'm always offered them when I go to the family planning clinic for my injection. Going to hate having to go back to them inbetween coming off injection and TTC. At least I have a few years to wait till we get to that point!

I've still got some free ones from first year of uni, I'm glad you mentioned this as I would have used them without checking! I don't use them usually but am planning to come off the implant in a few months and use them until we're ready to start trying for a baby.

Mrmini and I are having a good giggle at this on our lunch break. May we advise not to buy durex "tingle" ones? Genitals were never designed to have menthol on/in them.
