Cost of videographer

NatA2013, 12 July, 2012 at 16:11 Posted on Planning 0 22

We are in the (very) early stages of planning our wedding, although the venue is booked for 8th Feb 2013.

After reading some posts on here we both think having a videographer is important and just wanted a idea on what people have paid for theirs (we are in Essex).

Thanks!

Ours offers a basic package for £1000 or enhanced one for £1500, but because we are getting married in November we got ours half price... so £750

Mine was £1450 for two cameras with two operators from the getting ready to the first dance. I got 30% off on the condition she could use my video for promotional purposes. Her cheaper package was £1250 for two cameras, one operator and 1 stationary, from guest arrivals to speeches.

Ours charges about £800 I think. We got it for less as she was trying out new equipment though.

So so so pleased we had one.

Nat, I'm in Suffolk and can give you some websites for local Videographers if you'd like. There's details of costs on there.

We're paying £300 for some unedited footage of the ceremony. I wouldn't bother other than it's the only way our families will "see" us exhanging vows. OH will then spend a day before the UK reception editing it and adding music so we can have it shown in a side room at the reception.

First time round (10yrs ago) I paid about £600 for video of venue, ceremony, speeches and first dance. I think I watched it all of twice! Very much a waste of money for me, although I suppose if you watch it loads and friends/family want to "relive your day" it may be more important to you.

We're just having our Ceremony and the drinks reception/photographs video'd and its costing £300. It took a lot of digging around to find someone decent who would do this though because most of them said they wouldn't do just the ceremony as they would be loosing out as obviously they get paid more for a full day wedding.

The one we went with charges £700ish for a full days coverage.

We will probably have a company called One Take, who were recommended to me by Julia, the lady we'll hopefully have as our Tog (as we haven't set a date yet). Julia is based in Essex, and although I'm not sure where One Take are based, they'll cover Essex. They're about £1100 I think, from bridal prep to first dance.

Hi Kim, November weddings are the best! I've just asked people for a better price with being out of season - some have said yes (suit hire, videographer, photographer), some have said no (florist, dress shop, venue - it was the last Sat they had available for the year so they knew they'd sell it at full price). But people don't seem to mind me asking - I think it's a sign of the times that everyone's after a good deal these days.

What date are you getting married and where? Have you booked anything yet?

Hey hazyclaire, its Kim (changed my user name.) They certainly are! Reason for having it on 03rd is it’s the day before our anniversary so in the future we can have a double/extended celebration! We're getting married on Sunday 03rd Nov at DeVere in Suningdale Ascot. Got the date on hold atm & have another viewing this Nov as I want to see what the grounds look like/how warm it is etc as I’ve only seen it in summer. Also didn’t want to run the risk of booking it now and then not being able to get the registrar. The venue have offered us 8 free guests. We've booked the tog, fireworks and the hairdresser, didn’t get a discount but they're all doing it for 2012 prices. I’ve only done a quick search for videographers and have asked my tog if she can recommend anyone too. Seen one I like who’s based in surrey and his packages start from £625 so using that as a starting point. Going to (try!) and leave the rest till April so I can barter with people and see if they'll give me any extra money off if we pay all the money up front. Going to start looking for my dress in Jan and the other outfits in march. The dress shopping is definitely what I’m most excited about atm!

    What about you?

    Hi again

We've got most of the big things done now, which is a relief with only 4 months to go! we only booked the date in January so only 10 months to plan, but I didn't want to wait until next year (I'm impatient!). We booked the venue first in Jan, then the church and my dress in Feb, video guy in March, bridesmaid dresses took ages but finally got those and the photographer sorted in April, then invitations May / June which went out last week with a Sept RSVP date (but we've had loads back already) and booked florist and band for the evening last weekend - phew!

Mainly just got details to sort now - venue decorations, accessories for bridesmaids and flower girls, veil, fittings, wine etc. In fact I posted my full to-do list yesterday if you're interested https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/324445.aspx

But sounds like you've got off to a great start already. Don't be afraid to book further things now though as then you'll have double negotiating skills - off season and booking really early! I would leave your dress for a while though in case you go off it!

PS I really wanted bonfire weekend and fireworks but the venue wasn't available that weekend and don't allow fireworks due to livestock (we're getting married in the Lakes) so I had to give up that idea unfortunately...

Hi, We've booked Crystal media Productions for our wedding video. They've been really good so far. We weren't sure what we wanted so they went through lots of different options with us. I think the cheapest one was £350 for the ceremony and an hour after, we've gone for the gold package though which is £850 and the videoman will film me at home first and then film all the way through to about 10pm and do messages as well. Me and the OH decided we wanted everything. The guy on the phone was brilliant and really helpful and said he would do a custom package for us if we didn't like the original 3 packages.

The website is www.crystalmediaproductions.co.uk. I would recommend them so far and the footage i've seen was beautiful.

If you decide to have a videographer, we can highly recommend Unique Visuals, who are based in Chelmsford Essex.

    https://www.uniquevisuals.co.uk/

Of all the videographers we've worked with, these guys are genuinely the nicest, most professional and talented we've come across. We've become good friends with them having worked with them a few times & we'll be using them for our own wedding ?

An old post resurrected .....The cost of any video has to be balanced with the regret of not having had one. They are not for all, although I would recommend one (budget aware) as long as it is affordable. Along with your OH, the rings and the photography, the video is the only other part that remains from the day. The photography and videography help you remember the day in the years and decades to come and they gain in value as loved ones pass away, yet are remembered in the imagery of your day.

We used CPD too, Cath is brilliant it was well worth the money only a fiver for extra copies just about the whole family have a copy. There is a link to our preview in the awards section under the videographer category. At that price its well worth it. Plus she really cares about her bride and grooms recently contacting me because she thought our band would be great for one of her couples. Tho i'd guess the OP is sorted by now i thoroughly recommend a videographer to anyone i love my dvd.
