My boy is in hospital :-(

I am lost without him, rattling about on my own like a spare part.

He got sicky on Monday morning, I thought it was a hangover and berated him muchly for getting sent home from work. Fast forward to Wednesday night and he is still vomiting every half an hour, not managed to keep any fluids down and his blood sugar was all over the shop (he is type 1 diabetic). I started to worry when he said we should think about cancelling our camping trip this weekend.

I sneakily got on the phone to NHS direct, not wanting him to see how worried I was. The lady on the phone asked a few questions and as I soon as I mentioned that his vomit was brown (which I assumed was bile, as his must have been empty) she told me to take him to A&E immediately.

So off we toddled at 8pm on Wednesday. He was admitted, hooked up to fluids, glucose, insulin, antibiotics and paracetamol and blood cultures done. His temp was up at 38.9, but had dropped to 37.8 when I left last night.

It turns out that the diabetc ulcer on his foot, has turned septic, he has septicemia. Along side that, he has infections in his chest, stomach and kidneys. He is having an endoscopy today to check hit stomach as he was coughing up some blood on Thursday.

Just heading back to the hospital now to see how he is. His biggest grumble is that he is nil by mouth and hungry! Bless him.

I hate being without him :-(

*********UPDATE*********

So, this little tale took a dramatic turn yesterday.

I posted the other day that he might have to have surgery on his ulcerated foot. It transpires that it wasnt only ulcerated, it was riddled with infection. The upshot is that at 1am this morning, Stu's left leg was amputated at the knee.

That is all really.... feel a bit numb and a bit dazed.

x

I don't know what to say Sparkles, it must all be such a shock, although it's wonderful that he's pulled through. Sending you lots of inadequate weirdy internet hugs.

When I first read your op and then the update my blood ran cold, we really don't know what is round the corner do we? Has certainly made me sit up and appreciate what I have, I mean my loved ones, not material stuff.

I have gone through so many different emotions reading this thread so can only imagine what you and your ar OH have been going through

Thank God he is now on the mend, he certainly sounds like he has the right mentality to deal with his situation. I am disabled, wasn't always this way but I have a moto that I live by that helps me stay positive. 'Don't grieve for things that you can no longer do, look forward to the things that you can do'

it's posts like this that really reinstalls my faith in human nature, the ladies of hitched, you are wonderful, and likewise if there is anything that I can do to help at all I would be happy and honoured to do so.

Wishing your oh a speedy recovery and discharge so he can be home where he belongs xx

Bleeding Nora sparkles. I have no idea what to say. Nothing I can say will make anything better.

I know it's your man that is poorly, but look after yourself too. I really hope he makes a speedy recovery and is home with you soon.

Gosh, what a horrible turn things took! Must have been really bad for them to take him to theatre so late at night - I'm glad to hear he's already looking better. Lots of vibes and good wishes for the next few weeks. I am happy to help with the wedding project if there's anything useful I can do, though my craft skills are tragically lacking!

Sparkles thank God he is feeling better, really. There are so many positives here - your wonderful fiance is recovering, you are going to get married much sooner than you'd originally thought. But take it very, very easy on yourselves - despite the outcome being positive, you and your Boy have a lot to get used to and to come to terms with, so don't berate yourselves when you inevitably have highs and lows, and if it makes you feel better to let it all out on here and on Facebook, well you bl00dy well do that then!

I will happily do anything I can to help you have your perfect wedding - I will help out with anything at all, and I really mean that.

Really take care of yourself - I know your mind is on him, but he will have lots of people making sure he is eating properly, resting and looking after him, but you need to keep yourself strong and healthy too, for goodness sake just make sure you eat well, don't neglect yourself. xxx

Thank you all so, so much. I do truely appreciate it.

He was very very tired and woozy tonight, and not at all happy about having to have a catheter fitted! Bless him!

Tomorrow is another day... one day at a time.

    Thank you again
