My boy is in hospital :-(

I am lost without him, rattling about on my own like a spare part.

He got sicky on Monday morning, I thought it was a hangover and berated him muchly for getting sent home from work. Fast forward to Wednesday night and he is still vomiting every half an hour, not managed to keep any fluids down and his blood sugar was all over the shop (he is type 1 diabetic). I started to worry when he said we should think about cancelling our camping trip this weekend.

I sneakily got on the phone to NHS direct, not wanting him to see how worried I was. The lady on the phone asked a few questions and as I soon as I mentioned that his vomit was brown (which I assumed was bile, as his must have been empty) she told me to take him to A&E immediately.

So off we toddled at 8pm on Wednesday. He was admitted, hooked up to fluids, glucose, insulin, antibiotics and paracetamol and blood cultures done. His temp was up at 38.9, but had dropped to 37.8 when I left last night.

It turns out that the diabetc ulcer on his foot, has turned septic, he has septicemia. Along side that, he has infections in his chest, stomach and kidneys. He is having an endoscopy today to check hit stomach as he was coughing up some blood on Thursday.

Just heading back to the hospital now to see how he is. His biggest grumble is that he is nil by mouth and hungry! Bless him.

I hate being without him :-(

*********UPDATE*********

So, this little tale took a dramatic turn yesterday.

I posted the other day that he might have to have surgery on his ulcerated foot. It transpires that it wasnt only ulcerated, it was riddled with infection. The upshot is that at 1am this morning, Stu's left leg was amputated at the knee.

That is all really.... feel a bit numb and a bit dazed.

x

Sparkles I'm so sorry. I don't really know what to say past that.

My OH has been type 1 since he was 9. It really is an awful thing to have.

    Thinking of you both.

This is so dreadful but at least it meant his life is safe and he is feeling better. Big vibes that it's as easy as possible for you both to adjust.

I am both sad and happy for you if that makes sense. Sad about the op and how difficult it will be going forward and happy that you had the sense to get help for him and saved his life. Lots of vibes being sent your way for the future.

I'm OK I think... a few tears this morning, but I think I am allowed a few. lol.

Today is my nieces birthday, she is having a pink princess bouncy castle and glitter face paints, so I am off to get my fairy wings on and party with the 5 yr olds before I take lots of photos to show Stu later today.

I havent spoken to him yet today, I should think he is still knackered, and I reckon the pain will worsen today. He did have aneasthetic on a drip straight into the stump yesterday, but I think they will remove that today.

Thanks again for all your messages of support. They have really helped me. By the time I read them all last ngiht, had a good sob reading them and went to bed, i felt much calmer and stronger.

    xxxx

The best thing you can do is use friends, family and here for your own grief, to remain strong for your OH.

I'm so sorry that you're both going through this. Your OH sounds like he's making the best of the situation. xx

    Hi Sparkles,

I've just read this all the way through and so many things went through my mind, one being to remember there are more important things in life than nagging my OH for forgetting to put the bins out!

You are a truly remarkable woman, you single handedly saved your man's life. I wish you both all the best in the future and am on board with helping with any wedding planning at all - I note you're Lincolnshire, I'm Nottinghamshire so not a million miles away if you need anything.

On a slighty more selfish note, I'd like to thank you for sharing your story with us all when, at this time more than any, you are completely entitled to your privacy. You have shown us all not to hesitate in asking for help when we suspect something is wrong, to appreciate what we have as life is so precious, but also that something like this is by no means the end of the world.

I shall also join in with the useless internet hugs ?

Hey Sparkles, I am so sorry to read what has happened to your OH and you. Although, it sounds as though you are taking the positives from it which is so important for both of you. The wedding sounds like a lovely idea, and if I can do anything or lend anything then I will. Massive hugs coming to you and your OH.

I've also only just seen this and have just read it all the way through. I really admire your strength and courage in the way you've dealt with the situation.

I'm another one on board for project wedding. I'm not crafty in the slightest, but I'm a good planner and I'll do all I can to help.

Inadequate internet wierdie hugs to you.

    Thanks again everyone.

Just a little update incase anyone wants one.

Stu was totally wiped out yesterday, He was under the care of the intensive care nurses and he had to have 2 pints of blood as his iron was low, he was dehydrated and generally quite poorly.

Today, he is much brighter. He has been discharged from intenstive care, and is feeling better in himself. We had a good chat tonight, some tears and lots of smiles and laughs Smiley smile He just wants to feel better and like Stu again. He thinks he has come to terms with only having one leg, but I think it'll hit him properly when he tries to start moving around and things.

    Onwardsa nd Upwards from here...

Oh, and I have had No tears today!!! yey me!!!!!! lol

    xxx
