My boy is in hospital :-(

I am lost without him, rattling about on my own like a spare part.

He got sicky on Monday morning, I thought it was a hangover and berated him muchly for getting sent home from work. Fast forward to Wednesday night and he is still vomiting every half an hour, not managed to keep any fluids down and his blood sugar was all over the shop (he is type 1 diabetic). I started to worry when he said we should think about cancelling our camping trip this weekend.

I sneakily got on the phone to NHS direct, not wanting him to see how worried I was. The lady on the phone asked a few questions and as I soon as I mentioned that his vomit was brown (which I assumed was bile, as his must have been empty) she told me to take him to A&E immediately.

So off we toddled at 8pm on Wednesday. He was admitted, hooked up to fluids, glucose, insulin, antibiotics and paracetamol and blood cultures done. His temp was up at 38.9, but had dropped to 37.8 when I left last night.

It turns out that the diabetc ulcer on his foot, has turned septic, he has septicemia. Along side that, he has infections in his chest, stomach and kidneys. He is having an endoscopy today to check hit stomach as he was coughing up some blood on Thursday.

Just heading back to the hospital now to see how he is. His biggest grumble is that he is nil by mouth and hungry! Bless him.

I hate being without him :-(

*********UPDATE*********

So, this little tale took a dramatic turn yesterday.

I posted the other day that he might have to have surgery on his ulcerated foot. It transpires that it wasnt only ulcerated, it was riddled with infection. The upshot is that at 1am this morning, Stu's left leg was amputated at the knee.

That is all really.... feel a bit numb and a bit dazed.

    Hi Sparkles,

Good to hear no tears today - you must be feeling a bit brighter. Also good to hear that Stu is feeling better ?

You won't know me as I'm not a very regular poster but I didn't want you to feel like you're on your own this time of night.

Sending weirdie internet stuff and good vibes to you both. ?

Oh my goodness, I can't believe how awful this all must be for you. I'm amazed that you seem to be coping with it so well.

I'll be happy to help with whatever I can too. I loved doing all the handmade things for my wedding so if you want help with anything like that I'd love to do what I can.

Also I have a load of old wedding magazines which I was planning to get rid of. If you would like them to get more ideas now that the wedding is being brought forwards I'll happily send them to you. You might have enough already but if not let me know.

Aw no there are no words!

My uncle lost a leg above the knee to diabetes a good few years ago. His situation was a lot different in that he'd had a stroke a few years before and hadn't actually been diagnosed until a few months before he lost it but still, it was sudden and a bit shocking so I kind of know how you're feeling.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, he's obviously got plenty of support in you which he'll need in the next few months. Just don't forget about your own needs too - come on here to vent, these ladies are fab agony aunts!

Weirdy hugs and recovery vibes winging your way

I'm a lurker on here and a very infrequent poster on the main page but i wanted to post a message for you here Sparkles. I'm so sorry to hear what happened to Stu and i wanted to know that i'm thinking and praying for you both. I've read the updates and i'm glad to hear that he is now out of intensive care.

I just wanted to say if there is anything, and I mean anything I can do to lend help or support, please just ask. You may not know that I got married in June and I have plenty of card, diamantes etc. left over from our wedding. If you would like any of it its yours. I also have a cathedral veil and sparkly shoes should you wish to borrow them.

Thinking of your both *weird internet hugs*

Oh no Sparkles! I am so sorry to hear this! This hits close to home for me, my dad had his leg amputated below the knee after a parachuting accident when I was 11, it was a very strange time but we got through it. He now loves running (thanks to his spring leg, I see it as cheating ?) and has run a couple of marathons and it doesn't stop him from doing anything that he wants! So I am sure that going from how strong you and your OH sound that you will both be absolutely fine.

You sound like an amazing couple and I am sending lots of happy positive thoughts your way!!!!

    Hey Sparkles,

Just read this as I've been away, so just wanted to say I am so sorry that it's happened, but glad he's feeling a bit better. I honestly think you're amazing for being so strong.

If you need anything (someone impartial to talk to/a hand with Project Wedding) then let me know as I'm only round the corner x ?

    Hello everyone,

God, what a week it has been! I cant believe its only a week since this all happened!!!!

Stu is having a bit of a rollercoaster..... his bandages are off and they are very very pleased with how the operation went. However, he is still vomiting and they dont know why. He hasnt eaten anything really since the op - he managed a bit of toast and some yoghurt about 3 days ago and thats it. There are no other signs of any infection or cause for concern, just the sickness.

He is quite fed up, but that is because he feels ill, not because he has lost a leg. He hates being sick, always has done.

Tonight, we sat on the end of the bed together and had a lovely cuddle... it was magic :-D :-D
