Dark colours at Spring wedding?

LotBot, 24 April, 2013 at 10:33 Posted on Planning 0 15

I'm in the early stages of planning so nothing is booked yet but am lacking inspiration for my colour scheme. I was originally wanting teal/turquoise, silver and ivory but now I'm not so keen.

I was wondering if it is odd to have dark colours such as navy at a spring wedding? I think my bridesmaids will look better in darker dresses as they are both dark haired and I think teal/turquoise wont suit them. They are both a little larger than average size and I think darker may flatter them a bit more.

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

In my opinion I don't think it matters if you have dark dresses at a spring wedding.

Navy would be lovely, have you thought about what type/colour of flowers you would like? Some bright colours would look good with the navy, yellow, pink, orange or a mixture of them all.

I love navy and yellow together so maybe this - never thought of orange as well but could have a look Smiley smile not a pink fan I'm afraid so will try and avoid it :p

I am a sucker for daffodils (I live in Wales and wedding will be in Wales too) and as it will be March/April time they will be in season. I haven't seen daffodils used before for a wedding though so will have to google to get inspiration Smiley laugh could also have the ones with orange in!

Ooh the inspiration is coming Smiley laugh

    thanks so much!

Hi, I'm another welsh bride getting married 1st march 2014 Smiley smile, our colour scheme is burnt orange and grey, and like you we love daffs, so are using lots of these, they are going in the bouquets, buttonholes, centre pieces and the church Smiley smile

So in answer to your question no I don't think it will be odd to have dark colours for a spring wedding and you can never have too many daffs ?

I think as long as you brighten it up somehow, it'll be absolutely fine.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of dark colours in general for weddings, but somehow have wound up with a darkish blue in mine- TARDIS blue, to be precise. Marrying a nerd is FUN, guys. I'm a big fan of http://www.theperfectpalette.com/ which has helped me sort out my own colour scheme, and you might get some good ideas from it.

My own (December) wedding seems to be heading in a cream/metallics/dark blue direction. I had originally wanted greys and silvers, but the venue is strongly wood-based, and the greys look odd with it. C'est la vie.

I'm having black in the summer! Bridesmaids in black dresses, men in black suits.

I didn't really think about seasons because to me it shouldn't matter if it's winter and you want to wear pink or summer and you want to wear black. Go for whatever colour you want Smiley smile

I'd say go with whatever colours you want Smiley smile especially if you think it will suit the bridesmaids better.

I got married in Wales April 5th and wanted daffs in my bouquet but the florist said Daffodils were not ideal because they wilt really easily. I went for roses - hardy. The men were in navy suits, with yellow ties / hankies / buttonholes, it looked fabulous. Navy and yellow, in my opinion, is a match made in heaven.

However, the hotel we got married in is the birthplace of the WRU, so they like to make it as "Welsh" as possible. It was absolutely bursting at the seams with daffodils, so I got them without paying for them!

    Result!

I'm planning my wedding for April 2014 and I will be having my bridesmaid in dark purple, it's my favourite colour and would always be mu first choice no matter what time of the year I got married. My FMIL did try to talk me out of it, she reckons it's morbid and unsuitable for a wedding, but I stood my ground because it's my wedding, not hers, and not the seasons. Do whatever you want for your big day, you can always brighten it up other ways. And daffodils are lovely! I'm excited about April because I will be able to have tulips, and I Smiley heart tulips and they will soften the darkness a little Smiley smile.

My cousin had navy bridesmaids in an early August wedding. I'm having dark green bridesmaids in a late June wedding. I don't see any problem with this whatsoever.

    Hello,

Just wanted to reply to this as we got married last weekend, with the beautiful clear skies, tulips and daffoldils so a typical 'spring' wedding and we had navy blue. I have attached a picture so you can see how it came out - so many people commented on how nice it looked particularly with the bright flowers.

    Hope it helps your decision!

    xx
